It can be achieved with roto.
I don’t know about the video, but at the time when you want to make you actor split into two, You can use some Effect like turbulence displacement, etc so that the split procedure look good.
We can also shoot the actor with chroma so roto that we can skip roto step.
If the two moves exactly the same way that means you just have to duplicate the actor footage and Flip it Horizontally.
If the two moves in different way then we have to shoot two times with the movements we want.
I have n’t seen the video so I can’t what effect to use while splitting the actor but something which will distract the mind from the minor adjustments of the two footage will work.

In such cases, using white solid as matte is the best way.

I would suggest to use After effects only.
It is widely used in the industry and lots of Cool plugins and tutorials are available for almost everything one wants to make.

You can join also some College if you feel you can learn better somewhere else but be very cautious while choosing one.

I always prefer to make a Custom Template for RGB + Alpha.
While in Render Queue, Click on the Small arrow head and select make Template. Edit the settings with RGB + Alpha.
Now, Now can also make this default Output Module and by Pressing Cntl/Cmnd while selecting it form the menu.

Delete you Prefs File and may be this will sort out this problem.
For doing so,
Hold Cnlt/Cmnd + Alt/Option + Shift while AE starts. A pop will come to delete prefs file.Vishesh Arora

Adobe Bridge will do this job. Just Copy all the Project folders into one New Folder and then Open Adobe Bridge though AE. Now, Browse to the directory of your New Folder and Drag it to the Favorites Collection.Whenever you will open Bridge next time, You New Folder will be there to access easily from Favorites Collection.
By this you can simply Preview all the images and Video files right there in Bridge. Also you can Import the project file.Vishesh Arora

Noise is a common problem with Key-Light plugin.
If you can spend some money, Go for Primatee Keyer.
its a Pro plugin for Keying and widely used in industry. This will give full control on almost everything will keying the Chroma.
