I have read that tutorial. To give organic look, Motion Blur is used. Try Enabling motion blur and it will look organic.

You have to Animate the Mask Path parameter(select the layer and press MM) to give some animation to the split screen.

This is very easy to create this kind of split screens.
Just using Masks or Track Mattes with a Black BG you can create these splits window.

I believe you are viewing your comp in Wrong Zoom Percentage. Also check whether the Quality of Images are set to Best. Right Click on Image Layer, Select Quality> Best.

Viktor is absolutely right. Change the Stroke width from 100 px to say 2 px.
