  • That’s AI’s behavior. Illustrator doesn’t do live rendering in the same way Photoshop does. Some people use lots of effects on heavy files, and automatically doing a preview could add a significant amount of time to production, particularly if you’re running scripts.
It would be a nice option though.

Try this radial pattern tutorial, particularly using the rotate tool.

August 7, 2013 at 11:59 pm in reply to: Creating an animation in Illustrator

I don’t think I’ve ever animated with Illustrator, per se.
I might create multiple artboards if I needed to do cells.
Otherwise, I might have one master file with all of the elements.
    …just some general thoughts.

Did you make any progress with this?

Go to Pantone’s site. They have additional color books.
I think you need to register.
Are you doing any print tests from your workstation?

  • Can you isolate some of the cracks from the letters, than combine them with the ‘H’, just overlaying them or with Pathfinder?

I wish I did more with AI scripts. I’ve probably only used the random color script, here…

Huge potential for scripting, as you obviously know.
Just open one with a text editor and start practicing 🙂
(preferably something with syntax highlighting, like Dreamweaver or Sublime)

July 24, 2013 at 12:14 am in reply to: compound path gradient does not export

I don’t have a straight answer, but I’d reproduce the problem object in a new file. Don’t paste from the original, just recreate the one object and do your tests.
Depending on the results, maybe try merging objects to either the new or old file.
Sometimes I’ve seen corruptions on elements with effects.
You might even just be able to clear all styles (the None button at the bottom of the tool palette) on the object in the original, and recreate.
You might want to first try dragging the element into the Graphic Styles palette, to save the style, than apply the style to a new object and test that.

You’d want to use Acrobat Pro. You can add/edit text, create text fields, thousands of things, really.

Hmmm. Maybe adjust your Overprint setting in File/Print/Advanced.

July 23, 2013 at 12:00 am in reply to: Save for web giving me pixelated images

Not sure exactly what your issue is, but web is 72ppi, so I’d try reducing your document raster effect settings from 300 down to 72.
Do you have Photoshop? If so, try opening the AI with Photoshop.
