That’s what I meant actually. Of course the original image is progressive, there would be no point otherwise, but when it is played out there are two identical* fields non? Not one progressive frame. That’s why it has a different nomenclature. Once its in an NLE it doesn’t matter.

    * I mean that they are temporally identical, not duplicated and shifted.

Well, when they actually exist perhaps you could ask again then.

As I understand it Psf (progressive, segmented frame) is interlaced but the two fields are exactly the same, like watching a movie on a CRT. (in PAL terms anyway). It saves bandwidth and I don’t believe there is any visual difference.

Are you in Motion 1 or 2? In 1 you can forget about audio…it doesn’t work.

Um…OK, I really have no idea what you are talking about.

Whilst the car anology is old and dumb, have you bought a car recently? There are always faults with new cars.. do they stop you driving? not usually. There are always faults with new operating systems.. do they stop you using the computer? not usually. But from there on the anology breaks down. The engineering parts of a car are deterministic, they have a a correct and absolute solution. Operating system software is probably the most complex commercial mass products sold and cannot be ‘solved’ in the same way. The number of different combinations in which the customer can use and abuse the product are, for all intents and purposes, infinite. There can only ever be degrees of useability and the development process involves iterations that move towards a perfect, but unreachable, solution. With software the customer is ALWAYS part of the testing process and if you believe that the point one release of a new operating system should work perfecly you are a complete idiot. The difference between software and cars is: OSX 10.4.1 will be out in a couple of weeks and will solve most people’s complaints; try taking your Mercedes to the dealer and see how long it takes to get it fixed.

That’s an unfair and stupid comment.

This is across a range of cables and devices. It doesn’t affect my workflow and I’m not in the testing business, just passing on what I believe to be a potential problem and re-inforcing the experiences of the original poster.

FW 800 has become flakey, both built-in and expansion card on G5 2×2 after 10.3.9. Can lose comms intermitently. This is running FW400 devices from the FW800 ports (don’t have any 800 devices at present). FW400 ports are working fine.
