The current set-up has really been fine. I do now need to be able to get from the component of and HDV deck into FCP. I also need to add a 2nd client monitor. Neither of which are possible with my Decklink card. My research on these boards has me convinced that the Kona Lh card will deliver the best picture as well as the I/O options I need. I hate to spend money on a card that won’t work when I do switch to Mac Pro. That’s really the source of my hesitance to upgrade. I also think my current system has good resale value now.
“REPLY – use your standard graphics card – it will work.”
I’m looking at the same set-up with the ATI 1900. Is there any real value to upgrading the stock card? Or is that money better spent on the breakout box?
thx. i have done endless searching here and around the web and found a multitude of answers. i’m looking for the most concise one. the hd/hdv acquisition is a directive. i also have d-beta color corrected film layoffs and dv50 4×3 footage i have to deal with. i just need to get to 4X3 non letterbox for all of it when I’m done. i guess that is why i never considered doing it all hd. that and all the revisions that will be screened in SD. it’s just feels less complicated to me to get it into the format that it’s going to be used for immeditely.
I’ve been looking at this. I have a Sony hvr-15mu. Will I have machine control and TC via firewire in FCP 5.1.2? How does it compare to the Convergent Design HD-connect LE?
