Hi Marc,
Honestly, any version of Premiere prior to CS5 had such basic keying capabilities that it was virtually useless for any serious keying.

If I understand your question: Yes, if the signal format changes / goes away on a particular input, you would have to refresh/reload and possibly manually reconfigure that input via the menu, no other automated way that I know of.

Hi eric,
Manuals go a long way, keep reading and experimenting (if you have the opportunity), since that’s really the only way you’ll feel confortable in that seat. You basically need to grasp layering but video engineering knowledge doesn’t hurt. After that you can pretty easily move on to the Encore system which is in high demand in corporate.

CatDV is pretty commonly used for archiving. A simpler program would be advanced file organizer if all you need is keep track of where files are, it works for offline drives as well.

It could be a hard drive going into standby mode. The delay would occur when the drive spins back up. That can happen even if Premiere isn’t using the drive.

Hi James,
Unfortunately, WMV is a dying breed and hasn’t been updated for many years. My recommendation would be H.264 as an alternative for quality at a lower bit rate.
If you have to use WMV, then you’ll have to account for noise and fast movement in your footage. I would stick with VBR 2 pass and a minimum of 7 Mb/s
As for render time, that could be due to filters in the timeline.

Hi Mark,
The Yellow line is related to processing, meaning the the processor should be good enough to keep up with the footage.
If, as you described, you are working with a single drive, that drive will not keep up with the data rate of the Targas. In that case rendering (via preview) to a format of a lower bit rate (as in the iFrame codec) will solve that issue. The other solution is investing in a RAID array.
