Hi Buck,

For XDCAM / XDCAM EX, you’ll need to spend about $400.00 on the Mainconcept plugin.

Hoping that Sony is paying attention and that they’ll soon be offering tools for Pr users, the same way they’ve been doing it for FCP users..

We use use settings based on the specs below, never had issues with playback.

H.264 video up to 1080p
30 frames per second
High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps
48kHz, stereo audio
.m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps
640 by 480 pixels
30 frames per second
Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel
48kHz, stereo audio
.m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps
1280 by 720 pixels
30 frames per second
audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

Hi Andrew,

When you apply those settings, it will usually affect “new” projects only.

There is also an option in your preferences under “Media” that allows you to set the media cache files and database path.

Hi Daren,

Mainconcept is pretty much it for now with Premiere. I’m sure that’s about to change soon, but for now there just isn’t a free solution…

Hi Jim,

You should see a perfect frame with 1280 x 720 as resolution in square pixels.

Hi Jason,

As long as you have the same versions, yes.

The other issue that comes up is drive sharing. You can get MacDrive for the PC and use a Mac formatted drive, or get MacFuse, which allows you to open windows drives on the Mac side.

I attached a file that should do the trick, just overlay it over the footage and scale down 66.6 (1920×1080 resolution)
