I think CS5 came in around that time and fixed that bug, but I don’t remember seeing and fixes.

You should however be able to export to AVI with compression set to none. This is different from uncompressed AVI which is not supported by most most players.
But again, AVI is dead as a mainstream codec.
The only possible use I could think of these days, is exporting between applications as uncompressed, or for a request from a client who doesn’t know any better.

There are quite a few ways to go about it.
You can pan an entire track in the mixer panel.
You can also select all your clips “before they are in the timeline”, then right click > Modify > Audio channels. Check your left channel and set it to mono as stereo.
Or you can use the fill left effect on any of these clips once they are in the timeline.

I’ve seen issues with both AJA and BM. Right now we are back to DVI on a broadcast monitor, just not worth the headaches. Switching to SDI only for color correction or client monitor.

It’s a hard question to answer. FCP converts most formats to Prpres, unless you are talking about native editing?
I’ve never had real issues with FCP when it comes to Prores playback.

By preview, I mean rendering your sequence. If you have a good GPU/Drives, you should be able to see most of your edits in realtime without rendering to a third party format.

As Chris pointed out, it depends on whether you make use of previews or not.
I rarely render previews, so I leave it on performance.
