First, this is preview, which will in no way affect your export.
Everything listed here will actually preview at 25P. The frame rate for preview is directly dependent of what you choose above as a frame rate.

It is my understanding that AVI was last updated in 1947…
Cutting on both PCs and MAC, I have seen very little difference. Even on a PC I export Animation since the majority of cutters want QT files, the size is also significantly smaller.

Hi John,
I think the AD converter is the way to go. The conversion from a good affordable converter (Grass valley etc.) will be much better than something integrated in a cheap switcher. That also will not dictate your switcher choice, which in that case will be close to none.
It should be easy enough to screw/attach inside a portable rack.

Hi Itamar,
Are you seeing issues related to that? Is Quicktime reporting the frame rate? What if you bring it back into Premiere and check properties, what’s the frame rate?

Can you post a screenshot of the panel that pops up when you first create a sequence?
Do you see AVCHD/DVCPro/HDV preset etc.?
If not, you may have to re-install and activate online before you start using Premiere.

Absolutely, a monitored RAID is also a great solution.
The advantage of the LTO drive is that you can keep duplicate tapes in a couple of locations to counter theft/fire/tempering, and just dumb mistakes, but the deal really comes in if you can split costs with the client and use it for your own storage.

Hi Frank,
Long term storage and hard drive are not a good combination. Over time, drives that are not spun will just seize up. How long that takes is impossible to tell, I’ve seen it happen as early as one year.
We do use drive as well, but we spin them up very regularly, at least every few months, and then we upgrade them to larger drives as they become available. Humidity control is also a must.
It may be worth looking at LTO drives. They are cheaper than hard drives once you get past the cost of the recorder.

Did you do a performance check on the machine?
Even the Windows test will tell you if there’s a issue somewhere in the pipeline.
Did you use the old hard drive? If so, absolutely wipe everything out and start over either way.
CUDA is not a cure all though, and only certain transitions are supported. And then there’s drive speed. Remember, Premiere pulls 2 pieces of footage at once during a transition, on top of any other footage being played, doubling or tripling the data rate.

Hi Preston,
While you could use remapping, frame hold is the easiest way. But it doesn’t work like After Effects.
Make a cut where you want the still fame, set to hold at in point and set your out point.
