Basically. not until you have to upgrade to a machine with drivers that no longer support Win7. I have a feeling the won’t be for a while.

You may unfortunately start crying when you start using Win 8, and promptly go back to the Apple…

While I love Win 7, Win 8 is a UI nightmare. It was built for tablets and is a complete disaster when it comes to using a mouse. I’ve been trying it for the last couple of weeks, and I cannot stress enough how disappointed I am.

Let’s hope they wake up and make some major changes.

It’s likely a field order issue. Try setting your export to progressive.

It’s also possible that it your 4:3 sequence has the wrong field order.

I would give it a shot without transcoding. You can always look into it and replace footage if you see the system is slowing down too much.

I have not transcoded anything on Premiere for the last few years.

Hi Richard,

Edit in HD, AVCHD Preset. Export HD.

When it comes time for the SD version, create a new SD sequence, drop the HD sequence into it. Pan left and right if needed.

Hi Matthew,

We usually just end up rendering a TIFF sequence. When it comes to more complexe plugins, DL just can’t keep up. You’ll also find that it’s a lot more stable working that way.

Hi David,

Linux a no go for Adobe. I really wouldn’t worry too much about the MacPro. I doubt it will be killed anytime soon.

While you could argue that they killed FCP, well they didn’t really, the MacPro is pretty much Apple’s only high end machine and I can’t imagine them killing it now. And by the time they do, you might be editing on an iPad 🙂

We use both MacPro and PCs and while I have come to prefer OSX for its simplicity, I would have no problem trusting either one for a long haul project.

I see, if you are importing a lot of footage, you might just have to wait until it indexes/conforms the audio. You should see progress on the bottom right.

Sounds like a spanning issue. Guessing the files are over 4 Gigs?

Try to bring them in through the media browser.

One quick thought, try copying and pasting in a non Matrox timeline and see if the crashes still happen. Then , you may have to make a decision there…
