In all seriousness, I’ve had some very mixed feelings about HP PCs over the years, especialy Pavillions.
I sure wish they used the same designers who worked on their Ipaqs (Although that was Compaq at the time)
I would look into Alienware if I was to buy for Video editing. It might cost you a bit more, but from trying different brand over the years, I would not go back to anything else. Of course that’s a personal choice…
And BTW, I would look very carefully at their LCD monitors. They are very cheaply made, and a very bad choice if you plan on using them for any kind of video preview.
Not a HP hater, just had to fix a few too many 😉

Well, I sure would be tempted to go buy another firewire card no matter what, given their really cheap cost.
Now, have you tried these devices on another PC ?
One thing to try is hold the button on the ADVC for a few seconds and see if you are getting bars on the monitor. Although, that unit may still be bad on the DV side, that would really make it unlikely that it had a power surge going through its circuitry.
BTW, when you say the two LEDs are constantly on, is that with the firewire plugged in ?

I woud do a search in past postings. The biggest issue, as I remember it, is that it was deadly slow, as with any good emulator ;)…

The only software encoder I know that seems to be getting quite better results as far as speed, and sometimes quality is Canopus Procoder, but I have to yet to get it to work with Premiere 2. So by the time you render to uncompressed you are at the same point.

Hi Mike,
Well this is a client request. It has to do with many employees not having DVD players on their computers or laptop (I guess their IT guy hasn’t been convincing enough). To be honest, I haven’t argued about being asked for more work on that project even if I am getting headaches after watching these presentations so many times 😉
Anyway, if I use a projector flash file, they won’t need to have flash installed, which, to me sounds like the best way to make it hassle free. I am still working on that and a leats I am getting somewhere…
I have exported the project from AE to .flv and am now working in Flash 8 to create a presentation opening.
Still strying to figure out how to make the darn thing auto-launch. And I wonder how many cups of coffee one can drink before one gets in trouble… 20?

One more thing, I have a ton of those videos to deal with (about 50) and I’m not really sure I want to mess with flash which I haven’t used in ages.
What about working directly with Flix altogether? If it will make things a lot easier/faster it might be worth a purchase. What do you think ?
How hard will it be to create an auto launch and decent menu within flash?

I am working on a PC, the video is just over an hour, originaly published to DVD. Are you saying that I have to create a separate video image for mac compatibility ? I am not too worried about that because that particular company has mostly PCs, but I would like that option if at all possible without sacrificing space, thus video quality.
