Oh, BTW that 97% is wrong. Apple is # 5 in computer sales desktops and notebooks, and has a global install base of 53 million computers (and 6 million ipods). We don’t hear people saying gateway is doing poorly at there #5 position. Also, when i had a PC, I bought a new one every 4-6 months. I am now running apple’s from the late 90’s as DV editors. I can’t say that about my pcs. This is a tool that we are talking about. This is not an extension of the male anatomy. It’s like comparing a Yugo with a jet engin, to a McLaren F1. Both cost a million and go damn fast, but I will not be caught dead in a Yugo (sorry Yugo lovers). The mac is just one of the best solutions for digital print and video EVER! I have a dual 2.7 and trust me, running two/three streams of DVCPROHD with color correction, lower thirds, and motion in the frame, all at 1080i at full quality is damn fast enough for me. Drop the mac vs pc thing, and stop coveting Yugos.

Not so great version of the story, but I can’t find the original right now.

If you have no interest in real tim, then anything that apple states will work.
If your expecting Real Time performance with motion, I have found this to be the MINIMUM (motion would like double this). (I have used G5 dual 2.0s and 2.5s with motion 1 and nothing compares to my current 2.7)
Dual 2.7 G5
4GB ram -8GB here-
ATI X800XT or NV 6800 GPU cards -I have a X800XT-
Very fast raid (around 200MB/s) SCSI, Fiber, or SATA -I have a Medea RTRx on atto-
10 bit Uncompressed capture card (decklink, aurora, AJA) -I have a Kona 2 and Io from AJA-
Broadcast monitor.I can CC and Key UC8bitHD in RT with a lower third or two. Exports take less than playtime. All with the system above, and I am buying a second too. Very impressive numbers.

Rock the vote is all 2d. No 3d, no Z. I have not used said plugin. Ask a VAR in your area for a demo.

May 30, 2005 at 7:12 am in reply to: FRUSTRATED!!!! Any Real-Time render solution for Chroma Key in FCP 4.5? Is Avid/Mojo better? Both! some ,like one in 200 frames might drop, but you can fix this with a ram preview… that will take about play time. Or, you can export to the shows codec and import the footage (once again about play time). Do not however, import the motion timeline into FCP and expect the FCP render to be speedy, by doing this your avoiding the power of the GPU, preferably a 6800 NV or X800XT ATI.

Your boot drive should be journalled and the media drives should be extended.

Nope, only the 1884 has pan knobs, so dose mackie universal control. And the crappy BCF2000 has panners too. Guitar center in san fran and san jo stocks most control surfaces, but call first. Prices are better too.

[Dwaynne Villiers] “Does motion have vector paint? Does it have z-depth? Does it integrate well with audio natively (without going into Logic)? I can’t tell from the write-up on Apple.com,
“No, No, and No. motion is a basic, but very fast compositor and MOGO creator. In no way is it meant to do great special effects. I use AE, Shake 3, and combustion 3 for that work. But, if you need out and out speed with broadcast results, then motion is the app for you.
This apple video sums up all that motion can do very well.

May 29, 2005 at 2:09 am in reply to: FRUSTRATED!!!! Any Real-Time render solution for Chroma Key in FCP 4.5? Is Avid/Mojo better?Motion 2 has PrimatteRT, the famous keyer with GPU hardware execration. It will to cromakey in virtually real time even with a particle effect, and lower thirds on my system. Dual 2.7, 4GB ram, ATI 9650. I swapped out the 9650 card for a ATI X800XT and now run cromakey out of my kona 2 card right into master control and a SFbay news station for teasers, tags and tosses. Also I am using the PrimatteRT on my hour long HD documentary, with better that AE results, all in real time with the client present. Also with the FCP5 integration motion 2 works your normal workflow. This is a no BS solution to your problem. Mojo has NO hardware acceleration, and will not work better than FCP 5 and motion 2.

Yup, I am in San Fran. Most of the time that your using the 1082 as a control service you will not need to use it as a mixer. Say capturing a tape, you might need to ride levels and pull some EQ on capture, but FCP locks you out of the control surface anyway during capture. Or say your using the VO tool with the mic plugged into the 1082, just tap the midi to get to the mixer and tap midi again to get back to automation. When FCP looses a midi connection it dose not error every minute like protools or logic, and remember, you must have the FCP audio mix window open to use the control surface, so if your in the mixer and need to pull something down just do it in the window. When fcp sees that the control surface has returned, it will reset the faders to were you left off. When you tab between the Mixer and surface, the faders remember were you left off.
HOWEVER – if you run the outs from your capture card to a mixer then to your monitors/deck the 1082 will not replace that function. The outputs of the 1082 are not intended to be at a mastering level. I recommend a cheap line level mixer for that, or the 1884 is in all reality a MUCH better mixer and surface for a all in one replacement. Also check out the yamaha O1x or O1v. I have an O1v and it is great except for the learning curve. Between the 1884 and the O1x you can replace your mixers and gain a control surface.
