As far as I know you can NOT get an OMF into FCP. I just finished a 49min doc, exported audio as OMF, and then tried to bring it back in but was SOL. Soundtrack pro doesn’t open an OMF either unless I missed it somewhere….which I think sucks. If you are going to have the name PRO attached to your app it should support the most COMMONLY used file in the post industry!

If your going out of an Avid and are not planning on doing anything to the audio in FCP I would do an Audio mixdown of each individual track and then export as wave/aiff for import into FCP if you need seperation or just mixdown all to 2 tracks for export. Again, this is assuming you not going to workk the audio in FCP.

I recently went through up rez. A great help to me and allowed me to up rez practically error free was the following response to a post I had made:

    Start with this:
    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/basic_onlining_jordan.html

however, it will still be not as smooth as AVID. Believe me.
But my experience of doing quite a few uprezes with FCP now is
your clips will work, your color correction and transition effects
will work. Your titles will work (title 3D). But your freeze frames
might not and your speed changed clips might not. For what’s
happening with your time code breaks where you know there isn’t any,
my suggestion is to tell FCP to “warn after capture” in the
    user prefs.

How do you apply the filter to ALL your selected clips at once?

    Dude,

The link was most helpful. I started from scratch and things went very smoothly. A couple of messed up clips but I have had the same thing happen in Avid. A couple of maddening little things but not bad in the end. All my clips came with their FX and it all laid out well. You were right about the speed clips though. Those I had to re-create.

Thanks again for all your help.

WOW! What a drag! What is the difference in the way Avid renders as to the way FCP renders? This same sequence in avid(express pro w/mojo)would only take about 15 minutes to render and I am guesstimating on the heavy side. I have been working on Avid’s only(Xpress pro w/mojo, adrenaline, composer….) for the past 5 years so I am very familiar with the product. I have been pretty happy with the FCP rig right up to the up rez stage. I have that sorted out now but this rendering thing is a bitch.

Would I see marked time improvement by going with 4GB of RAM?

Sorry, Big Typo…Project is SD NOT HD. If It was HD I would think the render times normal.

Also system is a new G5, DP, 2.7ghz, 2GB SDRAM runnibg fibre to Medea FCRX(?)1TB

I have precise in’s and out’s from my producer. I have done this a thousand times on the avid and never had these kinds of issues with decompose.

This has been the most troublesome aspect of my entire project. Media manager has NOT kept all my effects with my clips(Saphire glow, blur, BCC noise, FCP strobe), any clip with a speed change has not come through, and several of my stills have been clipped. Not to mention the infernal”Another file in your ascratch has this name……” message!

    NO S**T!!!! I am trying to rez-up!!!!!

Up until this I have been happy with my purchase but now I am very dissatisfied and have a ton of additional work to do to get my show to where it needs to be!!!!!

No, I logged everything befor capturing and Batched it all. I’ve been cutting for 10 years, that’s a rookie mistake.
