Well if batch rendering and GPU support isn’t in there I’ll scream.

Sorry for the ignorance… is Cineform technology just for HDV or will it work with basic DV and/or uncompressed SD footage as well?

I always use a batch file to map the current PPro project to the X drive (or whatever free drive letter is available on your network). The batch file simply uses the DOS SUBST command to do the folder/drive mapping and it just doesn’t matter where your PPro project is located. It always works.

Another solution… just open the PPro project in Wordpad (or equivalent text editor) and “search and replace” the old/new paths of your PPro assets. The PPro project is a ASCII text document so this solution works fine.

Keep in mind not all PPro effects and plugins are supported in AE. If you’re using all standard transitions, dissolves, etc you should be okay.

Really? I’ve been told in the past that in order to record back to a BetaCamSP deck from a Decklink card, I would need a blackburst generator (e.g. Horita) which connects to the deck and the Decklink card. Is this still true?

I think you’ll end up with playback problems if you use that PAL->NTSC workflow. You should probably convert your PAL assets to NTSC first (e.g. Canopus ProCoder or some other conversion software).

  • I create a single seamless video (with music) in PPro showing animation and/or live action (for approx 15 to 30 seconds) and then fade to the main menu (using the Encore/Photoshop menu for timeline elements) with buttons fading or moving in, then show the static menu for another 15 to 30 seconds with music loop and perhaps an animated background. In Encore, use this video as the menu background, turn off the button layers (except hilite layers), set to loop forever, and set loop point to show the main menu video portion. The result is a seamless animation/video that fades to the main menu, then the link hilites appear, and the main menu displays (with music) for 15 to 30 seconds and then loops to the loop point. It’s all seamless with no flicks to black. I also create another copy of the main menu with just background animation and music (no intro animation). Use this version to link to chapter menus, sepcial features menus, etc.

  • You need to stay with the animated menu but use the “loop point” feature. For example, if the animation is 15 seconds, set your loop point to 00;15;00. After 15 seconds the menu with highlights and links will appear and will loop back to the 00;15;00 point when it reaches the end.

I think you just rename the Encore image file to an ISO extension. This works when I burn the ISO file to DVD with Nero.
