Not really sure if I understand problem, it never happened to me…
But it looks like you gonna need 14 layers (each one with its own mask and Stroke effect). Change blending mode for all of them (except bottom one) to appropriate in your situation (usually multiply) to blend all parts together into one gradually revealing image…
If I’m wrong and we are talking about different things, then I’m sorry. But hope it will help.

February 18, 2009 at 12:11 am in reply to: Changing a single edge of a shape layerYou have to change the way you do things with shape layers.
Your workflow should be as follow:
Create solid layer and apply rectangular mask to it.
Select Mask Path and copy that.
Go to Layer menu, New -> Shape Layer.
After you get new Shape Layer in your timeline click on “Add” and choose Path. You will get Content line and underneath Path 1 and under that Path with stopwatch. It’s what you need. Highlight Path and paste your mask in there. Now you will be able to work with shape path in the same way as you do with regular mask on regular solid layers.
Then again click on “Add” and add fill and stroke etc.
By the way, you can parent your shape layer’s path to your initial mask and work with this mask and all the changes you made will update in shape’s path. -

February 17, 2009 at 10:56 pm in reply to: Video playing on a flexing grid of particlesAlso there is another approach for those who do not want to sacrifice 🙂
Break your video with Grid filter into boxes/particles/whatever (you can combine it with Fractal Noise) so it will have gaps between them and then with help of Zaxwerks 3d Layer Warp (or 3D Flag… or Forge Freeform… or ReVision ReFlex) turn your layer into real 3d layer so you can wave, bend etc. it
So as you can see there are so many approaches you can take. It’s completely up to you what to choose. Does not matter what you use… just make it look great! 🙂 And of course, all we do whole our life is sacrificing. Unfortunately. -

February 17, 2009 at 10:25 pm in reply to: Show only X rotation in the layers panelThere is a very usable shortcut for it: SS
It stands for “show selected”. Just highlight X rotation, press SS and magic happened. Also you can highlight other properties you want to be shown and press SS and then only those properties will be displayed.
Hope it helps.

February 17, 2009 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Video playing on a flexing grid of particlesCheck out Harry J. Frank`s (https://www.graymachine.com) tutorials “Particular 4D Fractal” and “Particular Halftone Effect”. May be it’s something what you looking for… with some tweaking and may be combining these two techniques.

Not sure about light writing, usually I use different effects for that but what you see in this video it is most likely Trapcode Particular. It’s hard to say how did they match position of Particular’s emitter in AE`s 3D space to the source of the light in live footage, may be manually or may be with help of some tracker but anyway it was a lot of work with a lot of rotoscoping involved.

February 15, 2009 at 11:14 pm in reply to: How to make an object follow and interact with a path shapeIf you want real 3D distortion/bending applied to your picture/video then you need something like Zaxwerks 3D Layer Warp or Forge Freeform (plug-ins for AE) or Boris Blue (standalone program/plug-in). May be Trapcode Form but I`m not sure if it can do what you want.
There is a pretty good tutorial on Alan Shisko`s blog about Zaxwerks 3D Layer Warp, just search for it,
Good luck! -

This Matrox Axio LE sounded kinda fancy to me so I decided to check on it…
Have your ever visited Matrox Axio User Forum and read posts like “MAJOR FREEZE/CRASH IN PPRO CS3” and “Matrox WYSIWYG Crashing IN Aftereffects” and a lot of others?
For sure Adobe`s software has its own issues but youve got additional ones with this fancy hardware. -
I would say there are 3 ways you can achieve it.
The first is honest way – as Kevin suggests through the Time filters in AE.
The second one is a trick, to see what I mean, watch this tutorial:
https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/3d_sparks_title/
may be it`s not exactly what youre after but you`ll get an understanding of moving objects in 32 bit color space with blur applied and how it looks like.
And the third one is a pure simulation, tutorial is here:

Hope you will find something that you need.
