October 20, 2011 at 12:05 am in reply to: How do I get Vegas to use all of my processor power? Finally figured out how to get 100% cpu usage. I moved the video & veg files to an external USB 2.0 disk drive. Once I did that rendering just hummed along.
So I removed the second seagate hybrid disk ( ST95005620AS Firmware Ver SD28 ) and replaced it with a hitachi 750gb notebook travelstar( not a hybrid disk( ssd&platter)). Now I am a happy renderer in search of something else to complain about( 😉 )
So far the folks from ASUS, the maker of my G73SW notebook has not replied. Probably in warranty hell since I replaced the hybrid drive with something that works with Sony Vegas 10.
I let the sony vegas tech help folks also know of my discovery. no word from them either. -

is your machine from asus? a laptop? has turbo boost? -

October 8, 2011 at 3:59 am in reply to: How do I get Vegas to use all of my processor power?Well, laptop is an ASUS g73sw notebook:
cpu: I7 2630QM(2.00GHz) quadcore, turboboost to 2.8ghz
mem: 8GB DDR3 1333 ( CAS/RAS specs ?? )
disk: 500GB 7200rpm with Hybrid SSD x2
Sys: Win 7 64bitSpecs can be found at
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220957
under the heading detailsAll in all, nothing you have stated explains the erratic “Monitor Resource” cpu usage graph. At times cpu usage goes down to 0%. Cpu usage averages just 20%. It as if the CPU hits a “STOP” processing sign every so often.

Rendering with vegas pro 10e is a cpu intensive process, and not disk intensive. I suspect that with a 32Ghz ( thats thirty two ) quadcore processor, issues with disk throughput would begin to appear. My amd quadcore runs at ~100% throughout the rendering. The laptop intel i7 does not even get near that.
I dont blame Sony Vegas, other than their inability, or refusal to tackle this issue. ASUS seems to blame intel. I blame the bios that asus has placed in the computer.
I dont know why some I7’s have this issue. And some do not. -

October 7, 2011 at 3:47 am in reply to: How do I get Vegas to use all of my processor power?I have this same issue with my new fancy laptop/i7. It just does not thread well when rendering. One rendering on this laptop takes 7 hours longer that that of an AMD desktop running at 2.5Ghz ( the equivalent speed of the laptop). The amd quadcore desktop runs at nearly 100%, and finishes rendering in 9 hours. The laptop takes more than 16hours.
I can edit on my laptop, but I can no longer render on the laptop as it take too long.
Sony vegas offers no explanation. Nor do they seem to be investigating this issue.

Here is a pic of the resource monitor running vegas pro 9e on an AMD quadcore (no hyperthreads). CPU utilization is near 100%. FileIOsurrogate.exe is using a lot of cpu time.

Here is an image of the “Resource Monitor” while vegas 10e was rendering my camcorder AVCHD video into a blu ray image ( tools->burn->blu-ray ).
even though there are 8 “cpu”, the net average runtime is just 25% ( or just one core.)trying to get a reply fro vegas tech help gets me this response:
The cores are allocated by job and not necessarily by amount of allocation required. If there is one job that needs to be performed, one processor gets allocated to that job. Renders do not always pin the processor load on the machine, depending on the quantity of jobs run and processing power required.
If I have a house with 8 rooms, a single worker might take 8 hours to clean up. But if I hire 8 workers, I somewhat expect to have the job done in about 1 hour. With vegas as management, the task will still take 8 hours.
Some codecs apparently cannot be run across processors. But my understanding is that AVCHD can be threaded across cores.

There appears to be a document on page https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates/vegasfamily under DVD Architect 2.0 called “XML Theme Specification” . its from 2004 though.
Hello?

>XML syntax means
Not really necessary. there a some WEB editing tools that can assist. I use “XML notepad 2007” ( downloaded directly from microsoft) to edit the “default.xml” file’s found in the various Architect Pro theme’s (.thm).The is just no Dictionary that explains the various variables, and flags, and settings.

June 6, 2010 at 10:42 pm in reply to: Arch Pro 5: setting default size of button imagesWell, you are, in part correct. Chapter 10 does appear to have some info on how to do such things. BUT it does leave a bit of information out. Yes, default.xml in the theme (.thm) file does show how Architect defines themes, it really does not explain any of the xml ELEMENTS, or xml Attributes to those capabilities.
For Instance what does DVDA-THEME.MENU.LAYOUT.GRID.SETTINGS.MARGIN = .1, .1, .9, .9 mean or do.
XML just defines the grammer. Where is the dictionary that defines, and explains what all the elements are.
