PluralEyes is surprisingly reliable with bad audio. Sure, it can’t handle a noisy factory or standing next to a towering loudspeaker at a Heavy Metal concert, but it can handle the audio from a 5D or 7D bulit-in mike quite well in slightly more acceptable environments. Plus, it can even sort out a bunch of short clips to one long shot from another source.

Finally, they already have a beta out for Premiere Pro, and the FCP version is getting refined to 1.2. After editing a long theatre shoot with 4 cameras in FCP with version 1 (two of the cameras with lots of breaks) I’m very convinced of this product. I second that the old-style clapper is not really acceptable in many situations which are not regular fiction shooting.

Well, you can always use PluralEyes for syncing with the H4. DSLRs don’t have proper TC.

Dump the whole content of the card into one folder and choose the folder into which you dumped it, not any folder inside of it.

If you are asking about the GPU, don’t get AE confused with PPro, it’s not accelerated by the GPU that much. But rather get the model with an Express-card slot, so you can add fast disks via e-SATA and, as Todd said, RAM is crucial.

AE CS5 is running fine on a Dual-Xeon even under 10.5.7 or above, I just tested it. Apple is handling 64-bit differently than Microsoft. I second the note about RAM, get as much as you can.

We did not use a zoom audio, but two 5Ds, one HG21 and one Sony EX-1 and PluralEyes just synced fine, even sorted the clips in time (but that took a while). Only two short clips out of more than 200 were not synced and needed our hands.

The free Canon Importer works, but Grinder is much faster if you have a few cores.

Grinder takes the .MOV files just fine.

The episode is already online. And I have to second this, it was the obviously the look they wanted for that specific episode. Works very well in the claustrophobic situation under the collapsed building, but in other scenes I found the very shallow DOF a bit distracting, just a tad too much.

IMHO the Nikon has more aliasing, even the Canon’s are not free of it.

One more thing to mention are aliasing effects ( i. e. moiré ) on regular patterns in the focus distance. A blurred brick wall in the background won’t hurt, but a shirt with fine stripes on the actor will.
