What do you mean by “recommended”? That seems like a high-end system to me (note my laptop has a dedicated graphics card).

I heard that people are using CS5 for editing their DSLR footage on a i5 desktop PC with 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 460.

What I want to do is basic video editing (cutting sequences) and color correction with a somewhat fluid user interface.

Would this desktop PC then suite my needs?
Intel i5 760 @ 2.8 GHz
8 or perhaps 12 GB DDR3 @ 1.3Ghz
GeForce GTX 400 (AFAIK compatible with Mercury Engine).

The problem is not with the video being produced and I am not talking about text *inside* the video.

My problem is the graphical user interface (GUI) of the program itself. If you look closely at the screen shots you will notice that the fps rate isn’t shown at all. Instead you see strange symbols in place of numbers. Also, the text “fps fps fps fps” is certainly not correct.

Another example:
I have a 50p video source on a 24p timeline. I can do slow motion by dragging the end of the video on the time line while holding the CTRL key. I can export (render) this video and it turns out as is should.

BUT, I can’t right-click on the video, choose “properties” and change the playback rate field. It always defaults to the (minimum?) 0.25 rate and often shows “䆠” instead of numbers (see screenshot in OP).

One more example:
This is what is being displayed in the “File properties” of a movie in the Explorer:

Streams
Video: 00:00:36,600, 䆠ǖE fps, 1280x720x24, H.264
Audio: 00:00:36,600, 48.000 Hz; 16 Bit; Stereo, 16-bit Little Endian

Notice that strange symbols near the “fps” text?
