Vegas Platinum display problem in dialogs

Hello everybody,

I downloaded the trial of Sony Vegas Platinum. I notice annoying display problems in some of the dialogs that make the program unusable for me, apparently mostly with dynamic text fields.

I made screen shots that easily explain the problem…

This is the properties dialog of a movie clip on the timeline:

Note I am unable to change the values of these fields using the keyboard (it always defaults back to 0,250 / 0,1), but I can use the up/down buttons to change the value.

Also other places show odd values, mostly when FPS are involved:

The selected movie clip is a 50fps one.

Even the “New Project” dialog does not work correctly:

I already re-installed the software and rebooted the computer a few times without success. I tried the German and English version without any difference.

Any clue what’s wrong?

I have NO similar problems with other programs on my PC. Perhaps the program has problem with the German locale? But after all, I am sure not to be the first German speaking user of this program..

Gfx card is a Ati Mobility Radeon X1400, the drivers should be current.

I’m not sure why you are highlighting things like fps or audio volume. If the video source is 50i, then the playback should be about 25fps which is what is being shown. I did not see any screens showing text fields or problems with them.

If you actually played some video on the timeline, and saw a framerate slower than about 25, you are probably trying to play a compressed video source that your computer is having trouble keeping up with. Thus, the reduced frame rate.

I’m not sure how you learn Vegas if no courses are available to you. You might want to check VASST for instructional videos.

The problem is not with the video being produced and I am not talking about text *inside* the video.

My problem is the graphical user interface (GUI) of the program itself. If you look closely at the screen shots you will notice that the fps rate isn’t shown at all. Instead you see strange symbols in place of numbers. Also, the text “fps fps fps fps” is certainly not correct.

Another example:
I have a 50p video source on a 24p timeline. I can do slow motion by dragging the end of the video on the time line while holding the CTRL key. I can export (render) this video and it turns out as is should.

BUT, I can’t right-click on the video, choose “properties” and change the playback rate field. It always defaults to the (minimum?) 0.25 rate and often shows “䆠” instead of numbers (see screenshot in OP).

One more example:
This is what is being displayed in the “File properties” of a movie in the Explorer:

Video: 00:00:36,600, 䆠ǖE fps, 1280x720x24, H.264
Audio: 00:00:36,600, 48.000 Hz; 16 Bit; Stereo, 16-bit Little Endian

Notice that strange symbols near the “fps” text?
