Premiere Pro on my laptop?
I searched around a lot but still can’t figure out if my current laptop is suitable for video editing with Premiere Pro CS5. I hope someone can give me a clear answer…
The specs are:
Sony Vaio VPCF1
i7 Q740M CPU @ 1.73 GHz
6 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M with CUDA
full hd display
running Win7 64 bitI primarily want to edit Canon 7D and GoPro Hero Full HD footage (H264) _occasionally_.
The NVIDIA graphics card is not officially supported by the Mercury Engine but AFAIK Premiere can be tweaked to use that graphics card.
The question is: Can I fluidly edit HD footage with my laptop or do I have to buy a desktop PC (like i5 760, 8+ GB RAM, GTX 460)?

Most laptops are not suited for CS5.
Recommended is a i7 9xxx 12 gig of ram and a dedicated graphicscard. -
What do you mean by “recommended”? That seems like a high-end system to me (note my laptop has a dedicated graphics card).
I heard that people are using CS5 for editing their DSLR footage on a i5 desktop PC with 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 460.
What I want to do is basic video editing (cutting sequences) and color correction with a somewhat fluid user interface.
Would this desktop PC then suite my needs?
Intel i5 760 @ 2.8 GHz
8 or perhaps 12 GB DDR3 @ 1.3Ghz
GeForce GTX 400 (AFAIK compatible with Mercury Engine).
