August 16, 2018 at 10:47 pm in reply to: Vegas 15, Titles & Text Problem

I had tried to Copy an object and Paste (as a new instance, not a reference) …. then change the values.
    Apparently, something went sideways.

Creating a new Vegas Titles & Text object, changing the Animation (not the Preset), copying values from another instance of Vegas …. appears to work.

    Thanks for your effort Graham.

  • I’ve had “hot” laptops and tried those laptop pads with usb powered fans. I’ve found this to be far superior:

    https://www.amazon.com/LC05-Cooling-Auto-Temp-Detection-Compatible/dp/B00XKU47Y2

Rather than blowing air on the laptop, this unit pulls the warm air out of the laptop.
There are two modes: Auto-sense or Manual and 10 speed settings.
On Hi (Auto-sense of Manual), it is rather loud but you can feel the air being pulled out of the laptop.

    Best.

  • If you know the media referenced by the .veg files, try moving them to a new directory. Vegas will ask for the missing media; add them one at a time, looking for a file(s) that exists but hangs Vegas (ie, the file is there but the data is corrupted).

    Best.

March 19, 2016 at 11:50 pm in reply to: Conjoining to Images so they move together

You could try putting the images on two separate tracks and add a parent track above and use its Track Motion to move the children in 2D or 3D space.

    a. Parent Track <— move/animate via Parent Track Motion
    b. Child Track 1 (image 1)
    c. Child Track 2 (image 2)

In Vegas, successive 3D tracks interact together. E.g., consider 6 3D tracks, each containing a “face” of a cube. A 7th parent track can be added (all 6 3D tracks are child tracks). The 7th parent track is also 3D and keyframes in its parent motion will rotate the cube in 3D space.

If you want a text in front, then that track should be above (the parent) and should be 2D.

If the text also moves in 3D but should NOT interact with the cube, then a 2D track needs to be inserted in between to stop Vegas from merging the text and the cube in 3D.

Try putting a blank 2D track between tracks 2 and 3.

You could try using a SUBST(ituted) drive.

    \\TheServer\TheFolder\TheProject\blahblahblah
    M: (mapped to) \\TheServer\TheFolder\TheProject\blahblahblah

    now using SUBST:
    subst S: M:
    …or…
    subst S: \\TheServer\TheFolder\TheProject\blahblahblah

dir of S:\ should be the same as
dir of M:\ should be the same as
    dir of \\TheServer\TheFolder\TheProject\blahblahblah

    Try rendering to S:\

If you know the folder(s) where your media is located, rename it (them).
    E.g.:
    D:\Work\theProject\Media

    to:
    D:\Work\theProject\MediaNew

Try open the .veg. Vegas should complain it can’t find any of the media. Choose Specify a New Location or Replacement File. Do each media file one at a time (using the new location) and see if Vegas crashes on a particular file.

  • First, rarely do I place media on separate drives from the .veg projects. They’re almost always together on the same drive.

Second, using SUBST(ituted) drives, these issues go away. Essentially, you’ll be using the same drive letter regardless of which computer and which HD(s) are connected (used).

    Best.

December 18, 2014 at 8:26 am in reply to: Panning larger resolution event within a project

    > do you mean the width/height settings? What am I keyframing?
Yes, the width and height should be 1280×720. If this matches your project settings, then that Track uses the entire display region. Eg., if you made it 854×480 (also 16:9), then you could position it within your (larger) 1280×720 display region.

    > when I set the P/C size to 1280/720 the image is now much bigger.
    Your project ix 1280×720.
    Your Event is 1920×1080.

    On your 1280×720 Track …
If you put a 1280×720 P/C keyframe on that Event, then that should be shown, pixel for pixel.
If you put a 1600×900 P/C keyframe on that Event, then that should be shown (scaled down to 1280×720).
If you put a 1920×1080 P/C keyframe on that Event, then the entire Event should be shown but scaled down to 1280×720.
