Well from my past experiences with Photos here is what i ask all my clients for.
1. the highest quality photos. any formate work. but uncompressed Tiffs, Raw or PSD are the best.
– remember crap in crap out… if some one give you crap tell them they will not get much better.
2. What ever your FCP sequence setting are is what you should set your AE comp to.
– also make sure when you render out of AE you are using animation codecs. This way it is the highest quality and has no compression on it.Remember that compression does what it says… at a cost. compression kills some data along the way. examples are colors or audio quality. Also try and find out where the video looks good and then suddenly looks like crap. it might be in the last step with the video compression. maybe try a different compression software.. like squeeze. Im a big fan of squeeze.

the help menus on my PC are run through a web browser. So maybe your virus software or spy ware blocker is stopping it. i found that on, my PC when i hit f1 that firefox warns me that there is a popup and it is going to block it and prompts me if i want to allow it. you could also check to see if the help files are even on your system. C:\Program Files\Adobe\After Effects 6.5\Support Files\(HelpE) if the files are present then it must be getting stopped some where else… click on any of those files to see if you can open them. i guess if all else fails you could do a repair of the CS suite just by putting the disks back in and dragging out the help files.

Well im still stuck in 6.5 and i can tell you i use the alt+0149 all the time for bullets point. also works really well for doing city markers on maps. Im almost sure that AE is using it own Type tool engine. you might try and test it in PS or Ill. I also would try to restart. .. “Insert PC insult here”… MY work PC seems to randomly do wild things like that. I just always try and restart first… computers seem to just get a silly memory built up in them.. i don’t know why. If a restart doesnt do it, i would try a repair of the program to see if that fixes the problem. if you have to do a total reinstall don’t forget to do copy your filters folder so you don’t lose them in the uninstall.

Yea im betting that is the deal. Seems like a lot of work but the output is very cool. this idea could really be expanded and used to create some cool stuff. just imagine if you had a arm that reached overhead. You could pan to that position and really show off some cool stuff. like the spinning scenes would be amazing from above.

i have had this same problem. here is about the only way around it, that i know of. I would just Precomp where i could to get the matte right and then deal with the 3d part in the final comp.

well it could be done a couple ways.
1. you could try and mess around with trapcode’s particular. it is a has some interesting tools that can copy the old ipod commercials.
2. i think they maybe they had a 4-8 digital camera dolly rig with digital still cameras that had apature settings so you could get that streaked video look and they simple just turned the cameras on to take a photo every half second or every second as the dolly made its way around the circle track.. also the rig that held the cameras would be curved in the same way as the dolly track so that they all looked like they were taken from the same point. this is a cool idea it look very hip and trendy. there was a Japanese artist i saw about 8 months ago that did a really cool video using that light effect. you now are seeing that same look in the commercial for the new at&t adds. just still shots in a tiff sequence in ae… hope that helps.

Well No one is stopping you from selling any thing. check ebay.. Personally… I wouldn’t do that… unless you are calling it a stylized photo… I can spot when some one uses live trace… and personal i hate it… i do all my tracing by hand… even if it takes me hours… a human hand is much better then any program or algorithm. I will admit when it first came out i used to use it a lot… saves you a ton of time but at the same time… like i always say it is just a silly filter. any one can use a filter…

working with any file that comes from PS and goes into illstrator is a little tricky. Best to stick with PSD or Tiff with alpha. also to place the PS file into Ill, simply used file/place. this way it holds onto the alpha channel. Drag and drop is a little weird i have had issued with doing that.

Well here is a super easy way to do it in illustrator. If look under the circle or square tool you will find the star tool…. if you drag a star out on the canvas area and then use the up and down arrows on the keyboard you can control the number of points… or you can bring up the star creation digalog box and type in your own values. then use the Pucker and bloat filter to make the center smaller if you didnt do so in the dialog box. mess with the over all scale of your star and there you go…. fast and easy. feel free to do a subtraction from a box to trim off the un-needed parts…
