Hey Ben,

Back in the day, I created some faux surround by putting two speakers behind me. To the left speaker behind me I fed the right channel, but reversed the polarity. To the right speaker behind me I fed the left channel, but reversed the polarity. I think I connected another across the + terminals of the front speakers and put it in the middle.

Brian makes a good suggestion. Be aware that the DR-60D eats batteries quickly, so get an external USB power supply as well.

You don’t say where you attach the lavs. The placement may be part of the problem and how you rout the cable back through the clip. I always use a 2″ squared piece of G-tape to secure the mic cable inside the garment. It keeps things looking neater and also damps clothing and body rub.

Normally, boom mics locked down just out of frame (very close to the interviewee) sound better than lavs. But not always. The lavs you have should work fine. Be aware that the cardioid lavs have to be very carefully placed because they are directional.

It sounds like you need to find quieter places to do your interviews.

It doesn’t have any suspension mounting for the mics, so you’d have a lot of handling noise. If you had these https://tinyurl.com/p3flztr and connected them to the bar, you’d be much better off. But these are for shorter SD mics. If you were using shotgun mics these don’t provide enough support.

And what will you do when you have wind problems? How to you accommodate two blimps? The rig will really get heavy then.

Maybe some sort of dual suspension mount that will fit inside a zeppelin…….

I don’t know if anything exists to do exactly what you want to do. Why don’t you try to contact Rycote directly to see what they can come up with?

I don’t hear ticks as much as I hear whirs; like a camera fan motor or other motor nearby.

Does the camera you used make that sound when rolling?

If you want the two capsules to be phase coherent, yes.

Otherwise you get some nasty phase cancellation.

You’ll need to check to see if the capsules of each mic are wired with matching polarity as well.

Not exactly sure how you’d mount that on your boom, but it does mount on a standard mic stand.

You can adjust the angles of each clip.

They have no suspension mount, so handling may be an issue.
