There is a big difference between the NTG2 and NTG3. The NYG3 is a lot more sensitive than the NTG2.
That means you’ll not need as much preamp gain, and that’s probably where the noise is coming from.
Know as well that your use of the mics has a lot to do with how well they work. If you’re trying to get good sound with any shotgun that’s camera mounted, you’re too far away to get good sound, period.
The shotgun is supposed o be on a boom and within two feet (preferrably closer) of the talent. If you’re farther away then even great shotguns won’t sound that good. A shotgun mic is not like a zoom lens on a camera.

If you had a phantom supply and wanted to go “Top shelf”, I vote for a DPA 4018 capsule on their short “C” power supply. Together a DPA 4018C.
The whole shooting match is about 2 inches long.

How do you even mount a mic on the DJI OSMO?
Is there evan a shoe?
How far can the mic extend before it’s in the shot?
What are you trying to record and in what situations?

Hello Matt,
Great advice you’re getting here, from Brian and Al. (Thanks guys!)
I know you’re using a recorder, but if I’m taking a board feed I usually use a mixer in-between the board and camera to control levels. Pre-fader outputs are best because the gain doesn’t change unless someone tweeks the input tim.
If you’re getting a post-fader signal, you may have a busy day ahead of you.
When I get a line level board feed, it’s usually low and I have to choose between the mic or line level inputs on my mixer.
Mic input may be too sensitive, Line input may require more mixer preamp gain.
Having some adapters can give your the opportunity to take the output from the mixer at a better point.
If there’s a podium mic, I also bring a small foam pop filter because most podium mics pop like crazy.

Dear Sean,
Are they complaining about everything being in mono or just dialog?
dialog is usually in mono.
eft, ambi and music are in stereo.
I wouldn’t mess with it.
If you MUST, drop the -20 track if the main track has no overs.
Duplicate the main track.
Using automation, place each person where you want them with panning.
In future, record each talent mic to a separate track and place the iso tracks where you want them.
