Larry,

First thing I’d check would be whether you inadvertently left the Phantom Power on when you plugged in the wireless receiver.

Second thing I’d check is interference. Sounds like you may not have been the only person on that frequency. Go back to that location, turn on the receiver, but not the transmitter. If you were on the same frequency as when you were there for the problem, you may hear SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. That’s someone else operating on that frequency. Retune the receiver until you don’t hear the SSSSSHHHHHHHH then tune the transmitter to that new frequency.

About your surround anomaly. Without being there to see and hear where things were routed for your surround project, it’s difficult to give a plausible conclusion.

Was your system configured correctly?
Were your speakers and amps adjusted correctly?
Was the playback system configured correctly?
etc.

An error in any of them, all of them or something else could be responsible.

Peter has given you good advice here. One question. You state, “(2) Sennheiser MKH-416 connected to the Sound Devices 744T either way for boom.”

I’m not sure what you mean. Location and logistics depending, the Sennheiser 416 may yield better results, although I have had a lav win the day over a 416 due to the degree and direction of unwanted ambient noise.

Do you have a hyper like a Schoeps cmc641?
