Brian has given you some good information.

But, as I have heard before…..

“You can use the Magic Lantern Hack to disable AGC on the 7D. It’s not destructive, boots off your memory card when you boot the camera. It has a few other nice tricks up it’s sleeve also.

The input is mic level, but you can buy a beachtek adapter to give you two XLR and a line input for it. They aren’t powered so no condensers and are going to starve any decent dynamic mic so I’d only use it to bring line in from a mixer or something. Unless you are needing serious fidelity, you’ll probably get roughly equal results running a mixer into the mic input at a very, very low level.”

NOTE: I HAVE NOT TRIED THE ABOVE AND MAKE NO GUARANTEES ABOUT IT OR WHAT IT MIGHT DO THAT YOU DON’T WANT.

Hello Tom and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

Sounds to me like you may have a mismatch in the sample rate or channels. Back in the early days, speeding up or slowing down was sometimes due to something as simple as choosing mono versus stereo. Maybe you clicked on the wrong thing on a panel somewhere.

The glitches were there to tell you something wasn’t quite happy. You may need to adjust Audacity or look for a new software driver.

Try the mic on another computer. If you get the same results, it could be the mic, but still may be a driver issue.

I guess this means you’ll start listening to your production all-the-time from now on….right? 🙂

Well, either both mics went south or maybe your hearing brain just woke up and started realizing how dull you lavs really sound.

Makeup or other small particles of dust or other stuff, if they enter the headgrille of a lav can contaminate it and make it dull sounding.

Does that resonate?

Sometimes the truth is not nice. Your attempt to “kill the messenger” is duly noted.

You won’t be using manual focus, looking through the viewfinder or monitoring the audio.

Any one of those approaches, by itself, can result in a train wreck.

Maybe a battery hog, but people who buy Azden to begin with seem to be the type who might try to squeeze every joule possible out of a battery and buy cheap batteries as well.
