man that is another feature I miss from Final Cut 7. Being able to search “Cross Dissolve” and have it highlight all of em and just hit delete.

Back when I was a AE, having to prep spots for finish it was a real pain to have to comb through to make sure I didn’t miss any fades before sending out the picture prep.

I guess it’s time to submit a feature request on adobe’s site

So I emailed my contact at Adobe who I do not try and bother too often, and they said this is a known issue with black magic card drivers. The way to get it to stop flashing is to go to >Edit>Preferences>Playback> and uncheck the box called “Enable Mercury Transmit”

This disables the output of the card so my TV in my edit bay doesn’t get picture but that is ok for when I’m cutting alone since I don’t look at it. Checking the box back on didn’t bring the flashes back immediately so that is my work around til this project is over.

The flashing thing tends to really pop up only when having a super large project. Our Assistant Editor’s adobe project for this current tv show we are on is 17MB as of today ????

April 3, 2019 at 10:28 pm in reply to: Considering aborting Mac

I work at a film marketing agency with about a dozen edit bays. When we first opened in 2014 we had the debate of going Mac or PC. I was very much in the Mac camp but the decision was made to go PC. After the initial shock of having to use CTRL instead of Command Key, I found no issue with switching to PC.

After a while with working in PC, We all kinda agreed that the systems were performing great. The main downside was having to deliver Pro Res Finals which meant buying 1 mac just to run compressor. But now that windows adobe premiere has pro res codecs in it, the mac is useless to us now.

It’s now 2019 we have what is considered old computers now and they run a 1080p workflow just fine, But as all things must get upgraded at some point we are now looking to upgrade. As another user mentioned the Pudget systems look quite good. I was looking into the 4k edit station they advertise.

I think we will get something along those lines when we do upgrade. However we might build them our selves using pcparkpicker.com as I could get the price down to the $2400 range instead of the $3700 retail.

I think PC is the way to go, I admit I hated the idea of it but here I am waving the PC flag. I even went out and bought a PC for my edit station at home.

If the video fill works as good as it looks, This will be a huge win.

toggle magnet under the timecode on your sequence. Look at your keyboard shortcuts as you might want to remap the snap button.

I make subclips of all my dialogue in films and obviously need to search it to cobble lines in trailers. If you need to search subclips I’ve only been able to use a workaround by taking all my sub clips and tossing them into a sequence and searching the sequence.

It’s not great but it’s something til they fix it. ????

  • Hmm the only way I can think of doing this is using the project manager on the sequence you are trying to audit. Maybe just copy it all into a folder once. Then every time you manage the project later you can try and copy the same files over and only the new media will be copied and you can sort by time added?

I know this isn’t exactly what your asking for but this is what I did to help me keep track when sending a project back n forth between two people.

I would suggest you try masking part of the shot and then use the Lumetri color to achieve the difference in brightness/darkness you want.

    Thanks for the info Ryan!

I wasn’t sure if CPU or GPU was better to upgrade first. It looks like replacing a CPU on a HP Z420 with a new one might require a motherboard replacement as well. I’ll be taking up some video card options to the boss this week.

    Cheers ????

  • I might understand your question wrong so forgive me if this is not the correct answer. I’m going to cover setting up a multichannel sequence and exporting a quicktime with splits.

If you are trying to assign channels for a multichannel sequence you need to do it when you create a new sequence. After you create a sequence you will not be able to assign it. It’s a very annoying thing that adobe needs to fix.
    Here are two screen shots.
    https://imgur.com/a/AIGY8NP

    – So start a new sequence
    – Click Tracks Tab
    – Under audio section select Multichannel under “Master”
    – Next to that is Number of Channels you will want to add more channels, but premiere assigns it in pairs so you might need to double your tracks and leave one empty so if you are doing 4 channels make 8.
    – Assign the audio track output assignments
Now you then click the create sequence button. Drag your media in but do not change the sequence settings.

Now when you are ready to export get your video , I’m gonna use Quicktime settings, then click the audio tab. Now scroll down to the Audio Channel Configuration. By Defaul it will have only 1 stereo pair. Click the plus sign below it and it will add tracks. You can select mono or stereo and it will source it from tracks 3-3 or 3-4 depending on if you click mono or stereo.

    Export and wallah.
Now if this didn’t help you at all, I’m sorry to waste your time. Good luck!
