September 9, 2013 at 9:31 pm in reply to: Green Screen Selectivity – How to remove an area of green but not another? Thanks so much for the tips. I had tried tweaking the color shade and got somewhat close though I wasn’t happy with it. Totally didn’t even stop to think of layering it – which I usually never think of the easy way to do things. Worked beautifully. Thanks!

Well, I decided to try one other idea by stereo pairing and VOILA! We have sound. Must of accidently clicked the audio toggle.

I realize this is an old post. Hopefully I can still get a response because I believe this is what is my problem.
I have an old timeline that I am trying to “revive” and redigitize the clips back to the timeline.
So I have no master clips, just the timeline info.
So when I have been digitizing, 11 tapes got spit right back out and the console said that a drop frame tape had been inserted and it wanted a non-drop tape.
I don’t have any way of modifying my main clips…I tried modifying my sequence, and it said I couldn’t modify clips that way.
So if all I have in my bin is the sequence (and the clips I’ve already redigitized NOT the original clips) how would I go about solving the drop/non-drop issue?

So I looked into the Console and found that the incoming audio was set to 32k and did not match the project (48k), so I switched the Audio Project to 32k and was able to see some results.
However, I still have several clips left to capture, here’s the majority of what I was getting:
Batch Capturing Clip :: ****.new.01
•••!!!••• Batch Capture Aborted. Media Discarded.
Error on clip ‘****.new.01’:
Exception: A drop frame tape was inserted.
A non-drop frame tape was expected.
Please insert the correct non-drop frame tape.——————————–

Hopefully there’s a simpler solution out there?

Hi –
I am still having difficulties here. I am now into my third day with what should have just taken a 1/2 day.
I’ve tried creating a new project and moving my sequence into a new bin and I batch captured EVERYTHING, unchecking the “Offline Media only” box. It still lacks about half of the clips remaining to be captured.
Is there a way to individually select clips you wish to batch capture?
I’ve tried isolating a portion that was offline. It asked for the tape and then came up with a box that said “Incomplete”. O out of 5 clips captured.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks.

Thanks Colin,
I actually did run into that area when I was looking at settings, and no there is no check next to that, so we’re good there.
I actually think this update has fixed the problem because when I reinstalled Final Cut, I had to update the software, and so I was running newer Final Cut software to really old AJA Kona drivers. Made total sense, so I uninstalled the old drivers, installed the latest ones.
And I just was able to export to tape!
Thanks guys! My day hasn’t totally gone to waste! 🙂

I’ll give that a try.

April 13, 2010 at 6:50 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro causing digital artifacts on outputI apologize, my last post may have been misleading…
I know it is a software issue because I am getting these hits even BEFORE I output to tape.
But as far as hardware is concerned, I run a cleaner tape for 5 seconds once every week. I use a Blackburst for sync.
I can put a cut in my timeline one frame after the hit and roll my source footage over and that always fixes the problem.
But then I go to output to tape and the places that I’ve fixed are fine but then I’ve got the same kind of hits, this time in new places.
——
While I’m editing, everything is fine. I seem to be running into this issue once I bounce my audio tracks to four and video to one as I get ready to import. I render and do a check once it is done rendering, before it goes to tape. And it is during this stage in the process that I’m having problems.
Joe – they are horizontal lines, some short some longer…I hadn’t thought about my card overheating. I have an air conditioner unit in the room, so it is kept at a very reasonable temperature. Maybe it just needs a little extra help or something…I don’t know.

So it turns out that my “alpha” graphic, even though it was labeled as such, was actually a luma graphic and therefore needed a luma key thrown on…that seemed to fix the problem. 🙂

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
But I just want to make sure I’m understanding all this correctly.
These graphics I’m referring to are animations; i.e., lower thirds, show open text that flies in, a background for credits, etc…
For a really simple example, we have these lower third graphics.
I placed my source footage on V1, and then the Alpha graphic that was provided I placed on V2 (this is the exact same shape as my lower third graphic…I’m not needing to make an oval or rectangle shape or anything like that being that the alpha has already been made.) Then my lower third graphic I put on V3.
When I go into the Composite mode, I made sure my Alpha graphic was on Travel Matte – Alpha and V1 and V3 were “Normal”.
But this just essentially gave me my raw graphic on V3 and I couldn’t see any video from V1.
I tried overlaying V3 which cleaned up the graphic when it mixed with the Alpha, but still, no video.
I tried messing around with the item properties, tried reversing alpha…
I know I’m missing something here and/or have some settings wrong.
Thanks again.
