Belated thanks for your feedback and assistance here ! We have an HPE LTO 7 Ultrium 1500 external Tape drive. We purely need this for safety back up with our main archive stored on hard drives . We shoot mainly wildlife documentaries so have high volumes of 6 to 8K footage we need to back up. We have used our LTO 5 for several years on our Macs with no issues and this did not require software from a third party so this is an unexpected costly surprise for us !

I presume there is no alternative, but to purchase either the Canister or Yoyotta software ?

The Yoyotta looks a bit cheaper longer term with a one time license.. Any further thoughts most appreciated …

Many thanks Ben. I can view these P2 volumes perfectly through P2cms and they also play fine in the ‘log and transfer” window until they suddenly crash. I can sometimes transfer a couple of clips before FCP crashes. It’s the same p2 volumes that crash each time, usually cards between 22 and 25Gbs. I used a friend’s more recent 2.5GHz MBP and had no probelms ‘log and transferring’these same P2 volumes off my Lacie drives. Any ideas ??
