Avid can have track bases (RTAS) effects. I use the same workflow all the time.
Typically tracks 1-4 for DX then Fx then Mx etc

I like the idea of FCPX trackless, audio comes along for the ride kind of timeline, but the practicalities of no audio mixer no decent sync or timecode indication and no track based effects do tend to be limiting for many jobs.

No bussing with Avid is true, other than the master bus, bu that wasn’t mentioned originally.

Not sure the Beeb stands as a good reason to keep the govt out of anything. Highest rated channel in the UK, worldwide sales and it’s free of advertising. BBC iPlayer is standard by which other TV web players are compared. All enabled by centralised funding not dependant on advertising or sponsorship. Current govt likely to curb that though, mainly at behest of your very own R.Murdoch.

Their post production decisions aren’t always the best though – but that is also true of commercial stations the world over.

Well I certainly can.

Just because something hasn’t been a limitation for you doesn’t mean it isn’t for other people, perhaps working in a different way, in a different genre or at a different skill level.

I use cut and paste all the time across apps and in the finder / explorer to move files from one place to another.

Unless you have unlimited screen real estate your project window is fighting with lots of other windows AND the scrolling of the project window is hit and miss as you drag and drop so cut/paste makes a lot of sense. e.g. if you’ve used media browser to import a whole bunch of clips they will be at the last place you were in the project – you need to do some housekeeping to organise them.

I think Premiere’s requirement for all clips in a sequence to be ‘in’ a project is somewhat limiting on a number of levels. Most other NLEs do not impose this limitation.

For me the avid methods work for speed.

Track selection by keyboard follows source/record focus

‘Auto-patch’ is an option – so selected source tracks are patched to selected record tracks, change the selection and the patch moves.

Tracks selectable are A1-24 and V1-24. (They don’t have separate ‘source’ and ‘target’ toggles)

I tried that myself, but found that it was still drawing them. I even went into the super secret console menu and turned them off there – but they kept on drawing.

Those Pesky PEK files eat up storage pretty quickly on a growing file…

Yes I can see interlaced properly – I can also tap off the SDI output and record that to check it isn’t an HDMI limitation.

I’ve now tried downgrading to BM 1.3.7

I’ve also checked Yosemite with Avid and BM Media Express on BM 1.3.7 and Avid on BM 1.4 – all three play both fields.

FCPx will show fields when jogging by field in the canvas window – just not on the BM output. An export of the same Project reimported shows that the fields are there.

In Avid there is a draft/full quality output toggle, which would result in single field playback if set to draft, but I don’t believe there is such a setting in FCPx?

APPEAL FOR ANYONE with FCPx and a BM Mini-monitor and field capable viewing monitor to see if they can see both fields on the FCPx output? Thanks

I’ve tried every which way in the 50i/25p world – but am going to try a 59.94i setting too
