I did try and change the settings in Media Encoder to .mov but there is no option for it in the drop down menu (before you click “start render”)

How do I check my color settings? I was just about to get Magic Bullet Looks. Should I not? It makes AE crash? Can you use magic bullet looks with premiere too?

    I’m using a laptop:
    -Asus. Win7. 64bit
    -i5
    -8gig ram
    -Premiere CS5

I started a new premiere project and used clips with the same resolution and everything went smoothly. But I still want to be able to use different resolution clips. Have people had problems with this in the past?

  • Ok I think I got it. I did freeze frame and used pen tool to cut it out. Then I re-added the clip again without freeze frame on another layer below. I changed the opacity on the cutout layer to appear at the exact moment meeting the bottom layer.

I don’t see what purpose the “toggle hold” is doing on the keyframe though.

Thanks LaRonde for your quick reply and solutions, you’re the man!

I’ve read your suggested help link and some others attached to it. I’ve also looked at some utube videos on masking. I’m trying to follow your previous procedure…but still a bit confused. I’m sure if someone showed me first hand I’d get it in a snap, but reading text to do it is a bit tougher.

    Steps completed:
    -freeze frame
-masked around face, connected vertex and background disappeared

I created a “new mask” but I don’t see a new layer for it in the timeline. should there be one? Should i create a solid on the layer above of the video clip?

I read (from your link) to make a mask path one must copy the position keyframes and paste to the “Mask Path” of the clip. As soon as I do this the background “reappears” and the mask seems to be gone. where did it go? Also if I try to “Go back to where the footage is still in motion” it seems the layer is still frozen. Do i need to unfreeze it to see the clip playing again?

    thanks for your patience

  • As you can see I’m just learning this program, and by my self too…so bear with me please guys. Thanks for your advice so far.

Ok so I freeze create a mask of the pen selection? how do i cut it out?

Sorry if this is a basic question. I’ve gone through hours of AE video tutorials but can’t seem to learn this simple technique.

thanks guys…remember, we were all beginners at some point 🙂

What do you mean “I cut between two different colors or just black & white” do you put an effect on the clip that turns the footage white/black on the beat? Is it still white/black when you import to AE? But I don’t wanna have this flashing white/black every beat. I guess you some how take it out afterwards ?

  • which way do you export the freeze frame to maintain the high quality image?

Can you hear the audio play “by it’s self” or only in scrubbing? I can’t quite hear the audio good enough to time it with text i want to create to the beat of the music

I cannot hear the audio at all of the mp3 file I dragged into AE CS5. There are no layers other than this one! If I click to activate the graph I can see that the levels are going up and down but cannot hear the audio. Whats the problem?

Also if you never use audio in AE, what is the best way to precisely add text to the beat of the music of a video that I’m editing in AE if you cannot hear the audio? I”m sure you don’t you play the song in a seperate player (winamp)and cue it exactly to start with the AE video (which is my best idea). Do you write down the precise times from the timecode where you would want to insert the text?
