Thank you Angelo for that advice, all of this info is certainly guiding me in my decisions concerning RED footage. I’m still debating on wether to get a Red Rocket Card but it is nice to know it’s not absolutely necessary. And its especially nice to know my 12 core computer can handle footage like this. And thank you for the advice to benchmark my outputs before I agree to deadlines, certainly don’t want to promise something I can’t follow through on 🙂 Thanks again everyone!

Okay, I narrowed it down to my PSD background. It is the only part of the project that is flashing white when exported. Would there be a reason why a PSD file would act in such a way? Again, it worked fine in Motion 4, but not in Motion 5.

That was the next thing I tried, except it told me I needed to upgrade to the newest Compressor to do so. Do I have to upgrade Compressor before I can use it with Motion?

That is something I didn’t know so thank you for that. However, one of the main graphics I do, which I output with Prores 422 at 16-bit, is also taking twice as long. I tested it, and outputted the graphic at 16 bit in Motion 4 just to make sure. And it was indeed twice as fast as Motion 5 outputting the same graphic. Any thoughts?

And I must point out as well, I do not have FCP X installed, just Final Cut Studio 3.

What is funny about this is I just reinstalled and zero’ed out my Macbook Pro’s hard drive right before installing Lion. I have both Motion 4 and 5 installed. Motion 4 is the one that is outputting incorrectly. Now here is the kicker – Motion 5 takes more then twice as long to output. And it doesn’t even have the Animation codec. Am I missing something here? Why would it take so much longer to output from a program that is supposed to be faster? And did they really leave off the Animation codec?

  • Thank you for your help, this helps me immensely! Have an amazing day!

I tried that, it still gave me the same issues. Apparently it’s not a timecode issue, it has to do with the footage. Strange though, it looks okay to me, no digital noise or blips or nothing.
