This thread prompted me to order an Epson R260 printer and 50 Taiyo Yuden discs. I’m impressed so far. These discs really do look nice. It’ll be interesting to see how many I can print before I have to refill the ink. The 24 hour drying time (per the printer) kind of sucks, but other than that I’m happy.

    They REALLY are glossy.

  • Ok, but that doesn’t really make much sense.
It captures just fine from 29.97 material, but not 24p (which actually has a lower data rate).

Should explain practically everything. The XL2 works just the same as the DVX100, but names the modes differently. ”

    Great read.
That clears it up for me.
    Thanks a lot.

Use photoshop to create a blue (or green) shape that is the approx
the size that you need for the blur. Make sure to make the background
transparent. You can also blur the edges in photoshop to clean it up.

Now import that shape into fcp and place it on top of the clip that
you need blurred. Use key frames to move the shape around and keep
the area in question covered. When you are satisfied that everything
is covered up export your timeline as a self contained file.

Import that file and place it on top of the original clip.
Make sure they are still in sync (you can crop it in half to check).
Apply the blur filter to the clip on bottom.
Now, key out the blue shape to let the blur show through.

If you do it right it should look fine.
I had to do something like this yesterday and was pretty
    impressed with the results.

    I didn’t think the machine would be cheap… but $25 – 30k? *whew*
That’s a bit out of my reach.

So, it’s probably a lot more cost effective to just keep putting out dvd’s and
(if necessary) have my local post house dub it off onto digital beta to give to the station.
    Good to know.

I always figured that a television station would have a way to get it off of the dvd (even for a small fee).
