I can always count on you to get back on a saturday!

Actually I have already done an 8-bit version, but wondered if there’s much advantage going to 10-bit or ProRes; I have to do a final for a glass master, so I wanted to check?

I have seen posts on here saying render to 10-bit., but usually from DV.
The manual even talks about it, so I wanted to see what the gain might be, and to
find out more about the ProRes option.

Just trying to accumulate some more knowledge.

Noah,
I see from other posts that the Motion Templates cause problems on import into FCP.
However, I thought this was a problem with Leopard, not Tiger which
I’m using?

Thanks, I thought of that too, after I posted.
It is, as you say better than clip by clip.
Pretty annoying, tho’.
Copying a file, should copy the file.
Strangely, it showed up on my external monitor
correctly after dropping into the viewer, but
incorrectly after dragging it into the timeline.
Gotta go, lots of bins to open…..

That’s interesting, I have a sonnet card connected to a five bay from Kano and it does the same thing. When I start up the mac the icon to the raid is sometimes missing off the desktop.
The drive manager tells me the drives are not corrupted, but I have to re-install the software update for the card. Then the icon quietly reappears, like a missing child who thinks nothing is wrong. Then I discovered that if I start the tower first then get it up to operating speed, then start the mac it’s there from the beginning. The Kano people said the start up order shouldn’t make a difference, which strangely, at first, it didn’t, but now it does.
The first time this happened I though I’d lost everything, but now it’s just another quirk on the learning curve.

I’m up for purchasing another tower, so I’m curious to see if any other cards do the same thing. Also, I use a port multiplier, and when I spoke to the guys at Dulce, they said Port multipliers are not the way to go and in fact are on the way out. I took a look at CalDigit and their stuff uses port multipliers.

Actually David,
I appreciate the responses.
I am old school, broadcast, theatre and film, in front, and behind the camera and I just when I think I know something, I get on forums like this one, and realize there’s so much more to understand and learn.
As I stated before, I often wonder what I don’t know, and wonder what I should know, and how much I should worry about what I don’t know, and so on and so forth.
It’s that balance thing again. Time management; gaining knowledge vs. making money.
Unfortunately, part of my responsibility is staying on top of things, to stay competitive and to keep my clients happy.
I’m sure it’s a common theme on these forums, but I didn’t start off in FCP, but another NLE.
A lot of money went down the toilet, and with it a pretty steep learning curve.
I just try and remember to laugh a little, mostly at myself.

Actually I wasn’t “overthinking”, so much as stating how my mind was working.
Your previous posts pretty much answered everything, but like so much of this industry,
one consideration leads to another etc. (Even more so with the melding of the computer industry!).
I don’t know if it’s a blessing or a curse, but wondering what needs to be known
as opposed to what is known, requires a balance or nothing gets done.
Knowledge IS power, I suppose.
