No. This is a bug with the Mac App store, I’ll bet Apple has a fix already in process. I’ve purchased alot of things from it since January and at first it was really having problem finding updates. It has been better as of late with some updates, but as you can see there are still some bugs to iron out.

As far as I know the delta update is Lion only.
I’ve got FCP X on 5 machines. (4@10.6.8, 1@10.7.1) The update didn’t show up for any of them. The motion update did however. Of course we have a 20mb internet connection, so it only took about 20 minutes to download a fresh version.

Make sure you goto the purchases tab and then click “install” for FCP X. Don’t download from the product page itself.
If that doesn’t work call Apple, they will help you out. 1-800-MY-APPLE

Found some more.
– Timeline index now includes sortable columns: name, roles, & notes, and you can edit the values! (huge!)
– Zooming on the timeline now really centers on the playhead if skimming off, skimmer if skimming on
– Inspector updates more consistently to the clip selected.
– Startup is much faster.——

Just a guess. 🙂 I’ve had a Mac since 1984. Perhaps I just “know” Apple bugs by now.
Regarding the FCP 7, I don’t think that is the problem. It happened on a machine without FCP 7 installed. I have a feeling it has to do with some kind of receipt issue with the Mac App store. It’s still a little buggy.

The whole point of XML is so that different systems can read and write data. Therefore as long as this new XML format is documented, it will be an easy task to make a translator.
I started creating a translator that would take a FCP 7 to iMovie project (which is XML) and therefore FCP X and while I was able to get it to work on simple items, the iMovie XML is not a documented format, therefore I hit a wall.
The new XML format will be documented (Apple said Blackmagic, etc. will be creating import/export capabilities) so just give it some time, maybe even just a day and there will be translators. 😉

Sorry you were having trouble. The solution to this is fairly straightforward and you’ve got a couple of options:
Option 1. If your picture is locked:
1. Like you said, make sure you mix is set to stereo, not surround. Modify the project settings to do this.
2. Finish your edit and create Compound Clips for your VO and another compound clip for your Background Audio.
3. In the Audio tab in the inspector, set the VO Compound clip to pan left, and the Background to Pan right and export. Like this:
Option 2. No picture lock:
1. Set mix to stereo (see above)
2. Select all your VO tracks using the timeline index. Filter for audio, and then perhaps apply a search to get just what you need.
3. With those selected in the timeline index, hit command 2 or press tab until the timeline is selected. Then in the inspector audio tab, set the pan to stereo and then left.
4. Repeat for background elements.

As far as not being able to hear the audio, that is odd, but sounds like a phase cancelation issue. Removing the surround should hopefully fix it. But since you are splitting the channels on export it and effectively making two mono mixes you’ll hear the phase cancelation in your monitors before you export.

As far as I can tell in FCP X every clip IS a compound clip. You can choose “open timeline” on anything (even audio), and go to town editing, add video/audio, etc.
Perhaps its “flag” for it being a true compound clip. I would email Mikael at Foolclip about the trouble.
