Has anyone noticed a compound clip within a compound clip, doesn’t have the “icon” on it. I’m using foolcut and I am wondering if this if effecting the conversion into after effects. Because the second compound clip is not converting into after effects. Is it not registering as a compound clip? Is this a bug?

I also noticed renaming a compound clip makes it disappear.

Fortunately it was really fast to just re sync all the footage to the song and try again. Now it all seems to be working. I wonder If I did something to make the compound clip not register as a compound clip…

This would be an interesting bug if that’s the case.
Is it possible you created one of the Compounds in the Event Browser vs the Timeline?

No, both times I made compound clips in the timeline. The First compound clip was made from sync audio. The second compound clip I made manually in the timeline.

As far as I can tell in FCP X every clip IS a compound clip. You can choose “open timeline” on anything (even audio), and go to town editing, add video/audio, etc.

Perhaps its “flag” for it being a true compound clip. I would email Mikael at Foolclip about the trouble.

Perhaps that it’s a sync audio clip is a factor.
I had no problem creating a compound clip within a compound clip and the “internal” compound clip has the icon.

    My steps:
    Clip in timeline
    Add connected clip
Right click and create compound clip
    add connected clip
Right click and create compound clip.

Double click compound clip and observe internal compound clip with connected clip above it.
Double click internal compound clip and observe original clip and connected clip above it.

Looks like a bug, but was a different timeline view being used? Some functions are graphically blocked if the timeline view is on say Waveform Only, or Video Filmstrip Only, or the chicklet view.

[Timothy Payton] “I would email Mikael at Foolclip about the trouble.”

Yes but the implications may go beyond that utility. I could see it creating problems as FCPX media and metadata management advances.

Note in my other post in this thread that I’m not having any problems creating a compound clip within a compound clip and still seeing the internal compound clip with proper compound clip icon.

This would mean that there’s a specific series of steps that might be causing this.

I tried changing the views and scaling the views. Nothing happened. The fact the fool cut didnt recognize it but yet i could open it just like any other compound clip in fcpx is telling.

The first attempt I synced all the audio manually cause I thought auto sync wasn’t working. This is when the 2nd compound clip didn’t work out.

The second attempt I tried auto sync again and it worked but only because I waited till it was done syncing. Then i made my 2nd compund clip and it all works fine now.

Another issue i notice is with auto sync.
IF you are syncing multiple clips with audio and you open that synced compound clip before it finishes nothing looks synced. Even when its done. It’s all still lined up at frame 0. But if you close it reopen it it will be synced then. This is a visual bug for sure.
