Ron,
I’ve seen weird things happen on a few occasions like this:
1. The destination drive isn’t formatted for Mac OS X Extended, but rather MS-DOS.
2. The destination drive is going bad.
3. Or, you have them plugged into the Mac via a chain…i.e. your Firestore plugged into your drive plugged into your Mac. In this case, if one drive’s ports went south it could take the other one with it.
