Thanks! They worked out fine together. I think having similar lenses was key for getting a comparable look. Keeping the sony on wide should work. Break a leg with it!

    Hey Jamey,

Yes, I did transcode both to ProRes and it was problem-free in post. There may be some other options as mentioned above, but this method is basically bullet proof.

If you’re interested in seeing how the footage contrasts, the piece is posted below. The interview was shot with the EX1 (w/ a lens adaptor), and the rest of the visuals were 7D. I don’t think there’s much visual difference and most important–didn’t run into any post-issues.

    Best o luck with yours!

Some folks have noticed a bug since the 7.02 update, which could be the problem:

Poked around on the OWC site for awhile, looks incredible for the price. Would you guys really recommend some of their RAID solutions, as opposed to some of the more expensive Caldigit, etc? Especially if uncompressed is not a big issue, FW 800 is fine, and getting many terabytes of redundant (online) storage is premier importance?

Some of their 4TB FW 800 solutions look enticing, especially for the ~$1000 range.

Yes, if you’re using FCP 7.02, there seems to be an unfortunate bug. Some of us were discussing in this thread:

Exact same issue here–still running OS 10.5.8, FCP 7.02, most recent ProApps update. Glad to hear it’s not just me.

Yes, looks like the Targa files are natively set to export from Compressor at 32-bit.

Have tried the Color approach as well, will see if those files work on the PC AE system. I rarely work in Color, but looks like it can ‘Render’ out both dpx AND cin files. So that’s a possibility.

However, if that works on the PC side, that would seem to be a rather inelegant workaround, and there’d be something odd there–if a PC AE system can read dpx files out of Color, but not Compressor. Is that just me, or is that odd?

I guess I’m just looking for the cleanest files exported, with the simplest workflow–maybe straight TGA exports out of Compressor is it.

Thanks guys–is there any real quality difference between a tif or targa sequence? There’s a major file size difference in the test exports I’ve done (16MB for a single tif out of compressor, only 6.5 MB for a tga).

I’ll try exporting out of Color. Unfortunately, no AJA cards here, working with a Matrox Mini.

If you’re going the AfterEffects route, there’s a plugin that might do what you’re looking for–Twitch, at videocopilot.
