  • Can I add a “shaking” effect using fcp?

Posted by Jesse Wenger on March 21, 2010 at 4:12 am

My frinds and I would like ot film some fight scenes and to make them look more intense we would like to have the movie “shake” quickly and subtly. We can do this by shaking the camera while we are filming, but I have tried it and it does not give it the effect I am looking for.

Can I do this with Final Cut Pro? If not, what software would I use to add this effect?

Try Graeme Nattress’ free plugin “Earthquake” and fiddle around with the settings.

There is an earthquake filter in the recent versions of FCP, but it may be too aggressive. At low levels with a little keyframing it might work for you.

    All the best,

I’ve seen this effect being used in adobe after effects, I think that is the program I am going to use.

If you’re going the AfterEffects route, there’s a plugin that might do what you’re looking for–Twitch, at videocopilot.

Just apply size and angle key frames to you clip. Rez up clip to 105% or something and tilt it a couple degrees and then snap back. You can copy the properties and apply to other clips once you have it the way you like it.

“Genarts Sapphire Plugins” contain a filter called “shake”. It’s perfect! …but expensive…
