This is what I said from the beginning was going to happen.
Quick turn around live sports related stuff like this is right in the X wheelhouse.
You are going to have more and more people at different levels of production coming forward to say how well X works for them, and that will spur more and more people to use it.
When you look at the pic of the camera crew they are holding their cams in the shot and none of them look cheap.
That’s a real crew doing real work.
Just like our FOX SPORTS producers this year leaving to cover spring training with X in tow.
He broke down bad stuff about it also. In the end the pros outweighed the cons so he went with it. That’s me.
I like how he said he wasn’t going back twice hahahaha he couldn’t just say it once : )
Thanks for posting it.

[Jim Giberti] “For me Tony, it’s more, why does Apple require me to build a work around to “trick” X into making tracks that stay in place?”
I don’t know, if had to guess I would say that Apple thought that tracks were old and that their way was more innovative and people were going to throw flowers at them. I bet they are still asking themselves “what happened?”
One of the things I have always liked about Apple stuff is the fact that you can find workarounds for their stuff to get done what you need to your way.
Even before they had multi-cam you could still do a workaround and do multi-cam.
BTW, remember how many people were talking about multi-cam before they put it in and after they did nobody talks about it at all. Not to say it’s good or bad or anything. It was such a big deal before.
Now, mehYou seem to have outsmarted them Jim. You have your tracks but they don’t collide like they did in legacy and you don’t have to lock and unlock your tracks.
It seems like you kind of have the best of both worlds.

Cool Jim, the fact that you could even make that speaks to the versatility of the program in a way doesn’t it?

Thanks Walter, but I wasn’t asking if someone was buying, I was asking if you personally saw more people in your market buying MORE PPr than X
The subject was PPr was going to kill FCP X
In order to do that you got to sell more copies. I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Just looking around my town, since X came out I know of about 10 people who have moved to it.
I know of about 5 or 6 people who say, they are going to get X but have not yet purchased it.
I know of about 3 to 4 people who have talked about moving to PPr from 7 but have not done that yet.
Still sitting on their 7I know CS6 is coming out soon but I don’t hear anybody on the job talking about it. Maybe after NAB they will.
I know of 0 people in my town who have bought PPr in the last year. Not that they won’t in the future, I’m just talking about right now.
This forum, and what I see in my market are pretty different and I find that interesting.
Are people you know in your market buying more PPr’s than X’s ?
I got Lynda, so I checked the lessons on CS5. That UI looked clunky to me. I bet the new one will be much better. I didn’t like how it does titles over a still like that. I much prefer how X does it on the main canvas so I can see how it comes in over the video in realtime. I watched him drag that needle up and down the tmeline. I don’t miss that, or turning those tracks on and off.
The main thing I thought was strange was how basic the lesson was.
He explained what B-roll was, like he was aspecting a rank amateur to be watching.
The X lesson picks up like you know how to edit already.I wonder why he felt the need to explain basic stuff to professional editors with that program.
He must figure that the product also has users who are beginners and not just “top end” editors. -
I’m working on a documentary now and X just seems perfect for it for me. I’m cutting it just the way you did Andy.
A roll narrative and interviews.

[Simon Ubsdell] “Why are you rendering at all? I think it has been well established that there is only a disadvantage to rendering in addition to its being phenomenally slow. Conversely exporting an unrendered project is very quick for a number of reasons. Only ever render if you can’t actually work in the timeline otherwise, but most things should be real time. And that of course means that your render files folder doesn’t fill up. A win-win.”
Simon, very good question. You are right, I guess I was just doing it out of habit.
Thanks for the feedback.
You just saved me tons of time in the future.

[Jim Giberti] “In the meantime keep it small and clean and stay vigilant my friend.”
Will do my brother
Shot some stuff the other day with the subject in front of a window to show the city.
Didn’t have the heads about it so I didn’t have my 56k
It was overcast but the windows still a battle.
I decided to drop it into X to color grade and mask him to drop the window.
Looked great on the first clip so I pasted the effect down the line on the other clips.
Length maybe 30 min
Render took way too long in my opinion.
I’m on 1.0.3 with snow L
and an 8 core mac pro
Had not had a render that slow before, which caused me to search and find this post.
I think you are totally on point with everything you said. Heck, it’s what happened to you.
It’s given me pause.
Apple better get the fix out. I will work past some little things here and there and I can deal with style
but that story you told………Better fix it.

Jim, these post were very useful.

I cleared a bunch of space on my HDs

Isn’t weather it’s on or not determined by which delete key you hit?
If I hit the delete key it slides shut, if I hit the delete x key it leaves a gap.
So is it really on, until I make a choice which key
