I don’t know how it’s going to look but it makes sense for them to complete the chain.
Look, they already put out a super high res laptop. They didn’t tell consumers not to buy it because it’s
just for folks working on Red Epic shoots. They want everybody to buy that laptop even though right now must people can’t really make full use of a screen like that.
I was thinking about it, and they wouldn’t just make it for editors like us. It would need to be something that they could sell to the masses AND us.
The TV would have to be able to show over the air broadcast also. Not just the exclusive hi res content that apple was able to acquire deliver.
Mobil is cool, but when I watch a movie and have people over I want it on my big screen with surround sound.

they should just stick with computers.

I noticed that also Chris. Kind of frustrating. (I’m running mostly the same hardware as you)
To be honest I have not moved to .5 yet because I wanted to see if it was worth me doing it.
I was hoping that the waveform problem would get fixed in .5 but it seems it didn’t, and got worse.

Oh don’t get me wrong, he is VERY happy with his new computer. Those things are minor to him. He will cut mainly with X and put legend in with an adapter.

Good points Walter.
He went to put his old fcp on the MBPr and he noticed that there is no cd on that computer.
I guess he can find an adapter for that.
There is also no ethernet input.
But what are your thoughts on that flash HD?
A person may have an expandable laptop and have the HD crash and cost you a boat load of money if you need to recover that stuff.

One of my co-workers brought his MBPr into work the other day.
He had just got it so at the time had not had a chance to really work with it, but I watched him bring across a 5GB HD file with TB in a “flash” : )
It was very fast. He cuts with X so I will get back when he has a chance to cut some stuff.
The thing for me is, I love the flash HD
The main worry for me is a HD crash and with less moving parts it’s less likely to crash.
I’m surprised I have not seen more people talking about that flash HD.
Also many keep saying that Apple is walking away from pros.
Who in the heck needs a computer screen like this that is not working with super high end content?
I don’t get it.
This computer looks like a monster to me.
If you are the media manager on a RED EPIC 4K shoot, what is the downside to using this computer in the field?

Very insightful post Olof.
You spend a chunk of money on a top end computer and in three years something comes out to make your computer look like a donkey.
Once that happens folks just want to jump on that new horse.

I totally agree Kevin.
That move the other day only makes sense if they have something new coming and it’s just not ready yet.

“It’s a thought provoking question. I don’t know if I would say they are equal in their attitudes towards unions. walmart actually walked away from a newly million dollar constructed store just because the workers won the right to unionize that store.
Tossing millions in the trash to spite workers puts you in another league in my book.
Not to mention telling their workers not to vote for a certain person.
Apple would like cheap labor like many. They got a little smacked around for their dealings in China.
I got problems with both but they ain’t the same to me.
