[David Cherniack] “to ask many in that community to have respect for X may be asking too much.”

I wasn’t really asking about respect for X

I was asking about respect for Hark and Yu

I was wondering if their opinions carried much weight and if not, why not?

“the director recently took another step back to the future with Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon, a highly anticipated prequel shot with state-of-the-art 3D cameras and edited in Final Cut Pro X.”

    Am I missing it?

“I asked Tsui if he liked the new version and wanted to continue the project with it. He said yes, and at that point we completely migrated the movie to Final Cut Pro X.”

I don’t know, seems pretty clear to me.

[Chris Harlan] “Does this have something to do with the “Cold Mountain moment” meme?”

No, it’s not really about the type of movies they make.

It’s more about the level of production value and budget.

    They do Top end films

Many have questioned if X could be used on that level.

That question should be answered by those two.

Unless……….they are seen by some as some what second level. If that is the case…..why is that?

[Oliver Peters] “Because this forum, like most, is west-centric. Their films haven’t made it into the standard Hollywood-distribution circuit. So they are largely unknown.”

OK, but you posted their work and a link to what they had to say on Apple’s site now let’s see if it changes.

Hark and Yu’s credentials are greater than most so you would think their thoughts would carry more weight.

I wonder why they don’t. hummmmmm

  • And to close this all out. FCPX 10.0.8 fixed it. Happy ending.

Thanks for the heads up Craig, I’m downloading it now : )

  • [Craig Seeman] “NeatVideo Noise reduction is affected.”

I do wish they would fix this.

    It’s an amazing plug-in

I got on X early, and as a result I remember people on here talking about Events crashing.

I had not had that problem but it made me a little nervous so I started some habits to cover myself.

I’m working on a doc and instead of having an event for the doc itself, I started using the EB more like bins in old FC

so, each person in my doc has their own Event. I figured if one event crashed it wouldn’t bring down my whole doc and I would just reload that one person.

In their Event I have their sit down, their b-roll and their family pics and any articlse about them.

Then I tag that stuff from there. So I guess I’m using it like old school/new school.

The reason I bring up this workflow is because this has caused me to have almost 30 events with as many as 100 elements in each open at a time while I cut the doc. I could close some of those out but it hasn’t been a problem with them open yet and I kind of like seeing them all just a click away.

I’m only running an 8 core mac pro so it would seem like I would be a prefect candidate for the database to make may edit get sluggish.

    It hasn’t yet.

I thought the article below was interesting, but I gotta see something break before I start fixing.

If stuff starts to mess up I will be on here complaining about it.

If it doesn’t, I guess I will say that to.

[Brett Sherman] “Could it be X is ideal for the shooter/director/editor?”

Very possible Brett. I know it’s ideal for me : )

[Brett Sherman] “Once the structure of the piece is down, then it’s a matter of matching the visual to the narrative. And when I’ve shot it, I know exactly what I have so it’s a matter of finding it.”

    Exactly.

I prefer not to start shooting without a script. That’s where the editing begins. Then I delete clips I don’t like in the camera before I even hook it up. (love cards)

[Brett Sherman] “There are different kinds of videos. I just wonder how much of this discussion boils down to different types of videos and different roles in making the videos.”

Indeed. It seems there are way too many types of projects and too many types of ways to handle them
to really get much of a consensus on a lot of this.

    I enjoy reading though : )
