Well. I just did a test for you and doesn’t look good. Still seems to be the “pathetic 2:2:2:4 pulldown”. Now that makes me sad. I thought I remembered them saying they changed it at that NAB meeting.

That’s the way I see it, too. They are actually useable Nests finally, and I haven’t had it crash on me yet. I’ve been playing with the timeline by making Compound Clips and moving them to the end of the sequence, adding gaps with the Position tool. This is my way of using the timeline as a working timeline like I do in FCP 7 that stores clips at the end that I want to save for later.

Not sure what you’re asking. Do you mean “Break Away Clip Items” (shift + cmmmand + G)?

I think you’re getting a little too scared too soon as Lion is still not even out. AV Foundation is definitely a major change, just like the original QuickTime was. But the potential it holds to push NLEs forward into much better waters is very exciting. Haven’t heard anything from Adobe or Avid yet (probably b/c of NDAs) but I bet they are being forced to move their code to something much better than what we have today and I’m fine with that. More competition and keeps them from resting on their laurels. Just might take awhile as it seems to always do.

+1 to that. And come to think of it, many pros (that bought FCP X) now have at least 4 NLEs on their systems to use; FCP 7, Adobe Premiere, FCP X and iMovie. All useful in some way. I remember when we were lucky to have one.

Exactly. Like I said in another post, a friend has a G4 with Final Cut Pro 4.5 on it and it works just fine. Doesn’t have any new updates like Snow Leopard but does exactly what it did the day he got it. There’s always a solution, though it may mean sacrifices in the immediate future.
