I have a Sony DSR-40P Deck connected FireWire to my iMac and that’s how I do all my monitor previews.

    Would that be the problem?

Andy thanks for taking the time.

I’ve checked to see if the Anamorphic 16:9 was tick which it was, bizarre if you as me.

Funny thing is I stumbled upon my solution just the other day.

Like I said in my previous post, I found a post that mention to change my distort settings to:

upper left from -360 to 480
upper right from 360 to 480
lower right from 360 to 480
lower left from -360 to -480

However the problem here was these setting where for a NTSC 4×3 video.

Now this is the funny part, I had to place an after effects graphic and same thing is seem squashing on the sides. So I double click the clip and went to the motion tab and noticed that my scale wasn’t set to 100% and aspect ratio was not 0% however the thing i noticed most was:

    upper left was -512
    upper right was 512
    lower right was 512
    lower left was -512

So once I reset my scale to 100% and aspect ratio to 0% the graphic was perfect. I then though if i set my uncompressed footage to 512, this would be the correct setting i’m after, well it was. So now my question is, how do you come up with 480 or 512? as being the correct figure?

    Hi Andy,

    Thanks for your prompt response.

My final output is going to be 8 bit uncompressed but in PAL 4×3. The footage I’ve been supplied on a HD was ingested via a DVCAM SDI Deck as PAL 8 bit uncompressed. Not sure if when ingesting via SDI you need to tell it that you want it captured as anamorphic or not. I’m just rendering a file right now, once thats done i’ll let you know if its ticked or not.

Chris, you never let me down….

On this production there won’t be major CC because its being shots by a camera-op that shoots for channel 9 so he is on the ball with his levels/CB. I’ll be making sure its broadcast safe using the waveform monitor however the guys at AVE Artarmon (which you might know) said they have a unit that will make it broadcast safe in the transfer to DIGI Beta anyway.

So in order to ingest DIGI Beta into Vegas I would need a Decklink or AJA card with SDI. What setting do I use when capturing?

And what timeline template would I use if it’s been captured as DIGI Beta?

Sorry if my questions are a little novice, I mainly use Vegas for corporate productions so I’ve never had to know this stuff. The guys at AVE are all FCP uses but I refuse to be a FCP cutter 🙂 especially when I have cut on it before and find I can cut the program in half the time on Vegas (Boy I love Vegas).

My last question, If I just export it out of the Vegas timeline as a QuickTime uncompressed file and hand it to them on a HD, would that be a good idea, this way they can sandwich the segments on FCP and spit it out on their machine which I believe they have a AJA box.

I’ve got a weird feeling I will be shoot down
    😉

Ok what I did wrong was I dropped the 1920×1080 50i mxf file on a PAL DV Widescreen (720×576, 25.000 fps) project.

When I print to tape, the footage on my preview monitor jittered on horizontal lines.

So I restarted a new project: File/Properties/Template: and selected the HD 1080-50i (1920×1080, 25.000 fps) template.

I then placed the mxf files on the timeline and rendered them back out as PAL DV Widescreen AVI and you wont believe it, abracadabra perfect SD 16×9 AVIs with no jitter.

    I think its getting late….!!!

Sorry guys all cool I did some further forum searching and found that I needed XDCAM EX Clip Browsing Software V1.1

    https://www.sony.co.uk/biz/view/ShowContent.action?site=biz_en_GB&contentId=1193315622075

Just converted the clips to xmf and sure enough, clips dropped straight on Vegas 7.0e timeline. Yeeppiiii…..

Ok now the only problem I’m seeing is, I’ve down converted the footage to SD 16×9 Widescreen and as I do a walk through my house, I notice like a jittering effect on horizontal line.

    Whats that all about?

    Hi Terry,

I thought about doing that, I just though VEGAS would have been able to rendering out a Final Cut compliant file.

Are you sure that it can
