Found an answer to my question:

There is a System Preset node called Set Decimals, in the String session.
Just feed it with the number in the Value port and the number of decimal places in the Following port.
The result is a String with the decimal places clamped.
If you set the number of decimal places to 0, it will round to the nearest integer.

    Thank you for your help!

After playing around for a while, I came up with a nice XPResso solution. I’ve attached a screenshot.

The animations that I plan on using it in are product demonstrations, so I needed something I can use/reuse within larger keyframed animations. I’n not sure if I would have been able to loop just a portion with key framing while having the rest of the animation continue.

But thank you again for your help.

I believe you have to save the Illustrator Document as an Illustrator 8 eps file. Haven’t done it in a long time since finding this very useful plugin call CV-Artsmart. It lets you copy/paste from Illustrator to C4D!

February 25, 2015 at 7:08 pm in reply to: XPresso Question – Multiple points

In the process of this, I was hoping to find a way to get multiple points to link to a null for movement. I could see it being helpful in the future.
I know an XPresso setup to link a single point on a spline, or poly, to another object (null, etc). But not how to do a group of points.

Thanks, thats a very interesting solution!
While waiting for a reply I found another way to do it. I placed a Squash & Stretch Deformer into the object and set the ends before the beveled edges so as to not deform the object as it grows.

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you!
Your XGroup setup is a bit beyond my current skills in XPresso, no way I would have figured that setup out. I’m having quite a time just trying to figure out quite how your setup is doing what its doing.

Do you have any suggestions on how to better learn XPresso?

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the help! After playing around a bit before there were any replies to this thread I arrived at somewhat of a different “fix”. I’ve attached the file in case anyone is interested.
I was hoping there was a much easier method which would allow me to easily replace the shapes being traced with anything I wanted and still have it jump segments.

January 7, 2015 at 9:46 pm in reply to: Wire to Spool Animation?

Attached is an updated file, I added a point morph to your example. It doesn’t come anywhere near to what I’m trying to achieve, but does seem to be along the right track.

There just doesn’t seem to be a really good way of animating realistic wire. Its like trying to do an animation of a shoelace tying. Theres so many movements involved, I just can’t figure this one out.
