You need to check the downconvert firewire output menu to verify if it is outputting dvcpro instead of dvcam.
The 1500 appears to be having a problem seeing the proper DV version which in this case it must be DVCAM.

I have yet to see the YAK or for that matter Santa Clause.
Until I see him I am not certain if such YAK sightings are for real.
I know UFO’s, Big Foot, and aliens running the country exist but a YAK in FCP well that’s just too much to believe.
Walter could you please let me in on the secret to experience a Yak sighting?

Correct me if I am wrong but is the center box setting 16×9 or can it be changed to 14×9 or 13×9 via the Kona LH?
If it can be changed verify both the LH’s are set to the same letterbox setting.

You have a much larger problem that you may be overlooking.
Your Kona 2 WILL NOT WORK IN THE DUAL CORE 2.3!!!!
What you had before and what you have now are two different CPU’s.
If you intend on keeping the dual core than kiss the Kona 2 goodbye and be ready to change over due to the PCI-E issues.
Did you explain to Apple that all your hardware was based on PCI-X and your replacement mac had to be PCI-X.
I would not open up the dual core return it and demand to get the same version you had before.
Your case now open up an interesting warranty service issue for many others who are on the PCI-X platform who may find that Apple Care is useless if it means replacement of the CPU with PCI-E machines which will obsolete all their PCI-X hardware.
Once again Apple screws their end users in a manner only they can do best.
It’s similar to buying a car which uses unleaded gas and then have the warranty replace it with a diesel model and then finding out there are no diesel fuel stations within five hundred miles of your location.

You failed to realize my point if indeed you don’t value your own personal time involved to gerry rig your home brewed intercom system.
Maybe $100 will break your bank but for real world jobs in which I deal with the amount spent on rental gear is worth it especially given the fact I can have program audio injected into the PL as well as having two separate channels for talkback.
I’am glad your MacGyver solution works great for you but for others renting higher end professional gear may be a viable alternative.

Your idea is not overkill if it improves overall system workflow and saves time, aggravation and constant rewiring during a editing or dubbing session.
So of what you will upgrade may not be immediately billable to a client but is part of what sets your facility apart from a “mom and pop” outfit.

The easiest solution is to check if the plasma screen has RGB gain controls which in effect will change the color temp of the monitor. You can change from 6500K to 3200K to match your foreground lighting if you are using tungsen.
Another solution which I use all the time is to use a primary (allows gain,black,and gamma RGB correctinl. Put the color corrector between the playback source and plasma screen thereby allowing color correcting the image to 3200K. This allow a real time method to get the best color and brightness reproduction of the playback sources on camera.
You could rent the following color correctors Sony BVW-10 (component inputs with composite and component outputs) or FORA composite color corrector -(composite in and out). Call any major video rental house to see what they have available.
Hire a qualified video controller to shade your camera and run the color corrector and you will be fine.

Yes it is head switching which you are seeing.
3/4″ and VHS all had head switching which would have showed up in any dubs.
In addition it was essential that the original dubs to betacam were done using a TBC for the 3/4 and VHS machine.
Masking the head switching as Mark suggested is the first solution short of redubbing the original footage.
