Run don’t walk to the Digital Heaven website. Martin’s magically pixel correction plug in will save you years of pain suffering and heartache.
In the end you will have gladly been willing to pay $10 for every minute you saved using his plug in.
I highly recommend all his FCP plug in’s.

Not that this help much but the Sony Service Center customer service leaves much to be desired (the senior engineers who I have met there are great in contrast to the administrative staff who scores a zero) . Having freelance engineers who are qualified to service various manufacturers equipment is a major bonus.
It seems that many large companies have a problem with quick turnaround in the service department problems which could be caused by not employing enough engineers on staff, budget cuts, unavailability of parts.
John let me know your email address and I will send you my recommendation for an outside engineer to consult with. The engineer I will recommend is one of the best I have found, quite knowledgeable as well as honest and works on both Sony and Panasonic gear.

This occurs when the deck is not referenced to external sync such as an external black burst generator.
If properly referenced and the menu or hard switch for external reference is set to external or auto all should be fine when in EE mode.
Is the BB generator providing BB to your BM card as well?
Another option which I used to do on the analog bvw-75 betacam sp decks when no reference was provided was to bypass the tbc. On the bvw-75 there was a switch to bypass the tbc on or off. The 2000 may or may not have such a switch.

First thing to consider is what are you RT extreme settings set to?
Set it to dynamic and if need reduce the quality level to medium or low.
Five streams is alot for FCP to deal with so your problem is not unique.
I generally can do 2 streams of 8 bit uncompressed but have to set the RT extreme settings to dynamic.
Another item to consider what version of FCP are you using and what OS version are you using. Are there any known conflicts between the two or have you checked to verify you are using the proper versions?

The best professional advice I can offer you is learn the camera hands on at the rental facility in advance of the shoot which will allow you the time to go over the critical camera and vtr setup menus.
Understanding why and when to use the menus is more paramount than flipping switches and menus just because you can.You will be doing yourself and the client a huge injustice by not being properly educated and prepared to professional “fly” the Varicam or any other camera for that matter under the tight time requirements on set.
Reading a manual or book is substitute for real world hands on time with the camera, EC-3 and protocol which is uniquely Panasonic. The reference material does aid in speeding up your process but having the camera in hand is the only method to fully comprehend how it all operates.
Most rental facilities encourage the DIT or AC to familarize themselves on the gear so a request to learn the camera at the rental office is not out of line (assuming the gear is in house and available). It is in the best interest of the rental house to answer all your questions prior to the shoot instead of receiving the panic phone calls from the set.
The F900 and Varicam are two completely different beasts and require learning the method and menu structures which both companies use to address different functions and settings.
Sort of like learning how to drive a Big Rig stick shift versus an automatic VW.

The 250 watt will have enought intensity by the time you soften it up.
I recommend at minimum a 500 watt especially if you need to use the bounce from the key as the fill.

If you intend on using the natural daylight at the locations keep in mind that that light source is daylight color balanced in most cases anywhere between 5500 to over 6500 Kelvin whereas the light kits mentioned are tungsen color balanced which is between 2800-3200 kelvin.
So if you want to mix them you will need to use color temperature correction gels on either of the light sources.
If you gel the tungsen lights you will lose light intensity output from each fixture by applying a CTB (color temperature blue) gel on it. The higher the density of the CTB gel the more the light lost. CTB is available in 1/8, 1/4/, and full values. The higher the value the greater the kevin correction is. So if you want to convert a tungsen light as close to daylight balance you need to use a great CTB gel value but the tradeoff is lost of light intensity. In which case you may need to start off with a higher wattage tungsen bulb in the fixture to make up for the light lost.
For example use a 1000 watt bulb and apply a full CTB which will cut the 1K down to about a 500 watt.In an ideal world when dealing with large daylight sources the way to go is to use daylight balanced lights such as HMI’s or kino flo’s in combination with mixing in the natural daylight.
FYI Kino flo’s are great because the tubes used can be either tungsen balanced (two options 2900 or 3200K tubes) and a third option which is daylight tubes which are 5500K.
Often times we use half and half in a four tube kinoflo fixture (two tungsen mixed with two daylight tubes) this warms up the daylight fixture.
If you mix tungsen with the daylight and white balance the camera for tungsen then the background daylight will go blue on camera which may be ok for your purposes.

That very interesting Bob because I was thinking the same idea.
It can be quite a problem to discuss private matters on a public forum unless you protect the names of the guilty and innocent persons or parties involved.
In anycase Michael is making a major decision in his life and it most likely is beneficial for him to get it all out in the open before he does something he might regret long term.
Afterall he could always claim somebody else hijacked his computer and assumed his COW identity. Would this then be the first case of Cow identity fraud???
