Thank you for the detailed response.
I think anyone with long term experience in this business already knows that any delivery estimates any manufacturer (Sony, Panasonic, Grass Valley, Fisher Price etc) states about a new product are at best cases scenarios initially and a buyer needs to add one to two months for a more realistic delivery time frame.
But in the meantime can you answer more pressing technical questions like if the HDX-900 has VMod as part of its setup menus?

Oh I forgot a real important test.
What is the image quality for the 1080 recording versus shooting at 720P and then uprezzing via a Kona or BMD card to 1080?
How exactly Panasonic has chosen to derive the 1080 internally in the camera head is still a mystery and many would like to know the technical specs on how this is accomplished (magically voodoo or via a sophicated uprezzing process.)
I’ll give you five bucks and a lunch coupon at Subway for the test results.
I believe Michael Brennan would also donate a small token gift for the results also.

You will have to rerender the render files on the new system regardless so there is no need to xfer them over in my opinion.

try inserting varicam tape into HDX-900 and vice versa.
but seriously.
overexposure latitude tests comparing film rec to film gamma modes in HDX-900, white shading manual setups versus the lame auto white shading in Varicam, lens files storage on HDX-900.
Menu protocol and ease of access via EC-3. Can VTR menu be accessed on HDX-900 via EC-3 instead of having to activate it at camera head on Varicam (have to disconnect EC-3 to do so).
Matching Varicam to HDX-900 (varicam in Video rec mode).
Operational use and feature set of new RCP unit for HDX-900 versus the underpowered EC-3.

If you are freelance you will have no salary just paid on a per job basis for only the hours you are working.
Yeah Freelancer can be scary if you don’t find alot of work real fast and consistent.
A nine to five hours a steady paycheck but freelancer offers a higher day rate but along with that you are responsible for your own medical insurance, business insurance if needed, taxes etc etc etc.
If this is your first time freelancing full time then all I can say is start saving all your money to allow you to float thru the slow times.

Hire a qualified DIT to aid you in your educational process would be key.
But most likely the producers can’t afford this key person so instead pray for the best and hope that the worst does not happen.
Get yourself the Goodman Varicam Guide which is a great book for getting up to speed on the Varicam for the basic stuff.

Sorry if the truth is painful but these are the hard facts of reality at this time.
Next time convince the producers to spend the money to do the job right so that issues such as those you are complaining about do not arise or else live with them as they are.
Honestly I feel your pain but little can be done after the fact when no effort or money was put into doing it right the first time.
