It will say Academic on the part number sticker on the box. If it doesn’t don’t worry about it, just install the software. If after installation it comes up with Academic in large letters on the splash screen you installed the academic version. Not a problem. Find the FCP System ID in Library/Application Support/ProApps and trash it. Launch the app again and enter the correct serial number for the retail copy.

It’s a reference movie. It will only play on your computer. Take the exported file to Compressor. Encode to MPEG-2 with Dolby Digital audio. Put it all in DVDSP and author and burn onto a dual layer disc.

How long is the overall program? If there are natural breaks that go to black and silence I might be tempted to do it in multiple sequences. If not, I’d do it in one. One sequence can be more cumbersome to work with, but might save you render time on the back end.

1. Individual TIFFs or PNGs would be better otherwise the sequence would be 2560×1440, which is not what you want.

3. Use a 1920×1080 or 1280×720 sequence preset with ProRes as the codec and the field order set to None.

HDMI doesn’t work. Does the camera not mount on the desktop? What happens when you use the Add Volume button in log and transfer? Hard drive cameras with a lot of media can take a very long time to be recognized. Also mixed media can create problems. You might try it without the hub.

If you really prefer this method over a batch export you can still do using the Send to Compressor function. It’s exactly what the old Compressor did. Each item is a separate batch and has to have the settings and destination applied and if they’re coming from the same sequence have the names changed. I think it’s much easier in batch export from duplicated sequences. The batch function will have one setting for all the exports, automatically add naming conventions, and send everything to an assigned location without doing it for each batch.

P.S. Just to add if you use the duplicate sequences route and use the Send to Compressor function they will all be added into the same Compressor batch.

We had the Video Machine as well but only in its linear configuration. We could use it to digitize and worked with AE before laying back to tape through the VM. Whatever happened to those guys? They wrote some nice software.
