Connected clips cannot have transitions applied. You have to convert the connected clips to a secondary storyline.

No composite modes in secondary storylines. No transitions on connected clips. It’s like each connected clip is entirely separate from the clip adjacent. Not very magnetic if you ask me.

Actually forget that, it has a big drawback. The clip is limited in duration. You’re hosed, or wait for the upgrade.

Making video and audio of a clip that’s broken into a compound clip apparently simply puts it back together again. It doesn’t behave like a compound clip, i.e. open into a separate timeline, and the audio can still be expanded and collapsed.

As far as I can tell removing the QT X player does not nothing at all. QT is still built into the OS and the QT 7 player is much more capable.
